Same in Lorain County to the west of Cleveland. The independent league baseball team there is even named the Lake Erie Crushers in reference to crushing grapes
Official HSG Release: https://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/david-jenkins-elevated-to-president-of-haslam-sports-group They finally said it in public!
For now? No change. He's been the COO of HSG for 5 years and helped orchestrate the Crew sale/transfer. But if they poach someone from the Crew org, ahem Josh Glessing, to backfill the COO role.... we'll see what happens.
How does ManCan fit in that portfolio? A low end employment agency. Still, a very well written summary, which uses correct terminology, which you absolutely never see: " the operating rights to the Columbus Crew ".
Unfortunately, Aston Martin Racing is not the F1 Team. Aston Martin Racing is the group that competes in Le Mans and IMSA and operates separately from the Aston Martin Aramco F1 Team. Still an interesting investment for Jimmy and Dee.
Then that's a typo, because I know for a fact - and not from an Applebee's waitress - they bought into the F1 team. From Glessing's page on the Crew website: "Select HSG Ventures investments include: WNBA (league-level), DudePerfect, Homage, Aston Martin Racing (F1), StatusPro, Misfits Gaming Group, Courtside VC, Wicket, Jackpot.com and others."
Somehow, I didn't realize HSG had a 'controlling' interest in the Milwaukee Bucks. I thought it was a minority interest, like 20% or so.
There's also a Cleveland-based canned wine company called ManCan that has sponsored the Browns before. Might be them.
I guess Verizon is now a major crew sponsor? https://www.columbuscrew.com/news/v...artnership-and-veteran-debt-relief-initiative
They have been running spots in stadium for Verizon customers to bypass the concession line the last month or so.
The Columbus Fury are getting handouts from local government to survive: https://www.dispatch.com/story/news...d004165&gca-ft=10&gca-ds=sophi&sltsgmt=0154_A
- The Blue Jackets are still in town only because they play in a publicly owned arena ... and pay no rent. - The Fury are being bailed out to survive in town. Once the schedule changes in MLS ... and the attendance to Crew games declines IMO ... it is only a matter of time before the Haslams and Edwards start asking for more taxpayer support. For upkeep on LDC. Weatherproofing. Heat lamps overhead of premium seating. Etc., etc. If the Brook Park dome is done in 2029, they will have all the leverage they need to make an aggressive ask of Central Ohio government.
This seems like a lofty goal: "Meanwhile, Ginther aspires to make Columbus the nation's capital for women's sports."
Am I missing something? We don't have a WNBA, NWSL, or PWHL (hockey) team here, so to say there is a long road ahead would be an understatement. Also, how about you fix the shit around here first. Thanks. Irrelevant anyway, he never gets shit done.
Step one would be to pass Cleveland for best women's sports city in the state (WNBA coming, as is minor pro WoSo with a group that still has the wherewithal to bid on future rounds of NWSL expansion). PWHL at Nationwide would seem like the place to start (WNBA/NWSL not quite large enough yet to be talking about both Cleveland and Columbus in the same league).
Isn't the government technically owning the venues and teams asking for tax money for renovations just the normal way of sports business?
