I don't know what's scarier: United's defense without Nelsen, or MerdianFC talking to himself.

They gave up 4 goals to Tottenham, I guess it's plausible. Has anyone ever won an MLS Cup and the EPL the same year except in FIFA...?

    Go Nellie

I'll go one further and say I hope if he comes back to catch a game, it's a Won game. ;)

Actually, given the money constraints here, I'm not convinced MLS could compete with an offer from Grimsby.

Indeed. Speaks well of Nellie that the big dogs want him. Not that I'm in the least surprised.

I hope United can get him hired to do commentary on TV when his career is over.

At least I can continue to support him then.

They also have the clout to get around the whole work permit issue if they really want him bad enough. (good for him, crushing for our last hopes :()

    Aw crap, not Arsenal.

  12. Good luck - thanks for bringing the championship back to DC. We will never be able to replace you. Best of luck in England and hopefully you will be back in DC towards the end of your career.

Thanks Kiwi - the far side

Damn I stray from Big Soccer for one hour to actually work and come back to this news.

Good luck and thanks for your leadership Nellie, you will be missed.

(If true. Though, I wonder if he can keep up with the speed of the Prem. Not the fastest center-half in the world, you know.)

Well, thanks for everything, Ryan. If you weren't here, we might still have only 3 stars above the badge. Good luck, and here's another person who will be looking to get a Nelsen Arsenal jersey.

Hey, maybe we can nick Samuel Caballero from under Chicago's nose? Why not? We already stole Piotr. :D

That, or have someone go to C-Bus and kidnap Oguchi Onyeuw.

Arsenal may be signing Ivory Coast defender Emmanuel Eboue from Beveren. He played with them some in pre-season.

I think when he wasn't protected that DCU knew he was gone. Does everyone remember how bad DC sucked when he was injured...stay tuned for more of the same in 2005 unless a big time replacement is found.

True enough, but the front office has indicated that getting a top notch central defender is a very high priority if and when Nellie leaves..

I fully expect United to "bang the bushes" to get that defender..

Future naming to the United Tradition of Excellence banner.

Good luck Nellie. We're always proud of you.

and even if (when!) a decent replacement is found, its gonna take some time to develop the chemistry and poise that our a-list back line demonstrated this past season.

but best of luck to nellie, regardless

Good luck Nellie. You were a bright light through all the rough years here and finally got to have some fun. You have many fans here that will follow you wherever you play (outside of MLS of course). Don't be a stranger (bring your team across the pond to start next years preseason against your old mates). All the best to you.

Dinamo pounded Beveren 6:1 in cup UEFA few weeks ago, I wouldn't sign anything from there :p

Not to be rude, but how respected is this poster?

I have a very high opinion of Ryan. I think if he went to Blackburn he might well keep them up. But seriously, folks, he's not Arsenal quality.

That would be cool. If that's true, then Nellie would be going from my true favorite team to my sentimental favorite team.

Actually, the only good part about Nelsen & Stewart going back to Europe is that it really reflects well on D.C. United. I feel confident that Nelsen & Stewart are that kind of guys who would spread some good rep about the Black-and-Red on the other side of the pond -- and there may be some serendipitous end result to that somewhere down the line.
