Yeah, sometime ago it was announced that United would be playing the Battery, pre-season.

Visa problems for Alegria huh? The over/under for that to get worked out is 2 years I'd say.

Digi making a come back? I'd say that there's a bunch of teams that would love to see him succeed. Hell, we don't really need him but if we got him it would give us greater flexibility on the left. But a weighted lottery? It gives me constipation to see those words printed.

Digi would be a fantastic addition to this team.. He could play on the left side of midfield with no problem and could probably pinch in at left back if needed as well..

As for the weighted lottery, wouldn't United be first in line due to their poor record over the past few seasons?

If he's available, I say take him in a heartbeat.. His presence could finally move Convey into the middle where he belongs..

Well said Chris! And even if we didn't keep him I'm sure he'd at least get us the 2nd round pick we lost on Stoichkov. My only concern is what happens if we win the lottery? I know, the term "weighted lottery" means "MLS special avenue to fortify NY/LA and now possibly NE", but I do think there will be a few younger players going pro during the season. Guys like Ryan Cochrane, CJ Klaas, Chris Wingert, etc. If Cochrane were available, I think I might prefer him. But then again, if they do well in the U-20 tournament, they'll likely go to a European club in the summer.

Hey, this is our year to get talent, we're first in line for everything, so the more talent enters the league, the better. Come on down Digi!

    1. I'm suprised wild specualtion hasn't erupted over the young player from Georgia yet.

    2. Is it just me, or does Alegria have visa issues just about every season?

If first in line means "the best chance of all teams in the lottery to land Digi" then yes. But there's not really a line per se. Lotteries in the past have given teams one chance for every standings position removed from winning the league. For example, DC would get 10 chances to win: 10/55 in a lottery with full participation. The Metros would have a 9/55 chance (spare your snarky comments). DC would have the highest probability, but (assuming full participation), there would be a nearly 82% chance that he would go to another team.

Of course, that assumes full participation. If only, say, DC, the Metros, Dallas, and Colorado enter, the odds would go up.

Also: winning would take DC out of any lottery the rest of the year. I doubt Adu would go into MLS in 2003 (and if he were to, I think it would be right that DC be given every chance to acquire him, though not for nothing), but Salyer or some other player might be in a lottery later in the season.

Every athlete sin every sport does. Just wait a few weeks. Many baseball players will be late due to the same thing. Personally, I think it comes down to two thins - bureacracy and athletes who wait until the last minute to do their paperwork.

I myself prefer Digi over those young 'uns Cochrane, Klass, and Wingert if he is back to where he was pre-injury. Why? Because he so well fills a need for us: he'd fit in oh so perfectly at left back in a 442, which we will go to every once in awhile this year anyways, besides playing a decent left wing and none of the young possibles can do that at the MLS level today. Besides we just drafted Stokes so we don't need more depth at c-def.

    thanks for the links Jose

Maybe I can get some time to come and see the new and (god damnit they better be) improved DC United. The US game is a huge bonus. I've been wanting to check out Three Lions for some time.

Wow, the potential return of "DG"?

He was a nice player who showed a lot of potential with the Rapids, one of the original P-40 players. I'd be interested to see where his skills are now. Come on down, DG...
