Does Klinsmann have a coaching license? If he does, will his knowledge of playing the game transfer well to coaching players of it? I don't know, but if Jurgen is the next coach, it sounds a little iffy about success. First we'll have to wait and see if this coaching change is true.

I'm 90% positive that Klinsmann has been working on his license since he moved to LA. In fact, I seem to remember reports that at one point he was attending (not participating in) Galaxy practices as part of his work for the license.

But aren't there any Orange County Blue Star supporters on this board? I know he's been playing for that team under the name Jay Goppingen. (In fact, I was really pissed that I missed both of my Nevada Wonders matches against Orange County because I wanted to see him play.) I wonder if he hasn't been working on his coaching license with that team. Maybe some Orange County supporters know more about that situation ...

If he's successful and is offered both the Galaxy position and the Spurs job at the same time I wonder which he'd choose. :)

galaxy. his wife is from southern california and i read somewhere they basically had a deal, once his soccer playing days were over they would settle out here.

as long as we're throwing around ex-spurs players, why not the hod? he's out of a job and would bring much of what 'real fans' have been asking for since sigi's arrival: the return of creative, attack minded soccer. we won't win f#@$ all, but we'll look real pretty doing it...

come to think of jurgen would probably be pretty similar.

True but it did say he had applied for the position with Spurs so I think he would not have if he wouldn't consider moving there for a few seasons. It would be difficult to choose. More money and "prestige" at Spurs or staying at home with friends and family and working under a lot less media pressure here.

Personally after all the limelight in Europe, I'd stay in America and be low key. I mean, where else can you play soccer under an alias without many people bothering you? I wish I had paid more attention to the Blue Star; then I'd see him.

well, it's important to take in to account the source (the mirror) and compare it something a bit more respectable (well sort of)... http://www.skysports.com/skysports/article/0,,58-1110509,00.html

same quote from pleat, but noticeably absent is the unquoted material from the mirror, namely the names of the big hitters.

not saying it isn't true, just that i wouldn't bet the farm on the mirror :)

When he learns more of our interesting regulations, like salary caps, limitations on SIs,
and the concept of league-owned contracts (as in Galaxy players not being signed to Galaxy) et. al.
senor de la Torre will ask to be excused to except saner offers, such as managing NYC public schools or PR for Martha Stewart.

Saner still, he could choose to remain in Mexico.

    Re: Sigi
I have no particular agenda concerning Sigi, but how do you fire a coach who brought you a championship just one year ago? The Galaxy's collapse was as shocking to me, a neutral observer, as it was to Galaxy fans, but is Sigi entirely to blame?

Judging from Klinnsman past actions, no way he wants the "prestige" of the Spurs job. Too much attention and, for lack of a better word, pressure from the media folks. I would be amazed if he even took the Galaxy job. It sounds like he has an ideal set up right now, no need to compound life any further.

I know he's involved with Blue star, but I haven't heard any reports of him coaching the Galaxy. I'll be playing against him in a couple of weeks, i'll ask then.

Merged the various threads about possible replacements should the news of Sigi's departure this week be true....not that the rumors wouldn't be there if it weren't. ;)

Mostly, if the personnel decisions were primarily his, and they were. In terms of working with the hand he dealt himself, he made a total of one right move - sticking with Crash Moreno. Other than that - trading for Suarez, then not using him, even though he has three good center backs, and Suarez is the only right back, instead using a three back lineup with Califf out of position and the slowness of Red/Bo exposed and their ability to support the offense limited. But he needed that extra lineup spot to get as many mediocre midfielders on the field as possible.

We might not have repeated with a different coach, but Sigi made things worse than they should have been.

In fairness, Suarez was hurt in the Open Cup game and healed slowly. Not sure what his health condition was at the end, but by then it was too late to experiment with him when the back line did NOT appear to be our major problem. Execpt for the $%^%&$ing collapse at the end, the backline held SJ to what, a single goal in 3 prior games?

And, the injury to Chivas Martinez meant we never saw the Dallas trade have any impact on the mid-field. Not sure who made the trade, but I think Chivas was an effort to address the midfield weakness that everyone did identify. It may still pan out unless Martinez ends up with his eponymous team in San Diego.

I'd have been more surprised if they had made the announcement this week.

Besides, Doug doesn't have time for all this right now, he's got an empty stadium he needs to fill by Sunday.
