If we are serious about this we need to max out the poll entries, all vote, take the top 3 and have 2nd round of polling. And some of the options probably should come out of the thread where forum tagline got discussed in the off season.
Considering that the process of changing a forum tagline practically takes forever*, it'll take forever to change it again to something more appropriate if the San Jose Earthquakes are actually doing decently by the All-Star Game or thereabouts. It's probably best to wait until halfway (or at least a quarter of the way) into the season to actually see how (or if) the team gels and performs by then before even considering a serious poll on a new forum tagline, with some positive choices thrown into the poll as well if need be. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G * If past tagline changes are any indication, the procrastination of deciding to change it will be followed by a poll with many choices and lengthy arguing, followed by another poll (of the top 2-3 of the previous poll's choices) and more lengthy arguing, and finally followed by a request to the admins to change the tagline to the winning choice which sometimes takes the admins a while to do.
It would go much faster if we just submitted a change. Now you're hallucinating! Ah ha! That's why we have fans thinking it might be OK to give Frank the rest of the season, or at least until the All-Star break, or some such. The old one definitely needs to go. The band has been back together for over two years now and they still can't manage to carry a tune.
How about what I suggested in another thread? "Give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses of never-weres and has-beens waiting to be free (of expectations) and we'll give you our promising young talent"...
That would probably be too long to fit so if we were to edit it, it would come out something like Clash 2.0.
Yes is very lame ! No it hasn't.. the band has never been put together. We have "members" of the band that need to go ! I'm all for changing the tagline, but we need more ideas for it.
Mod talking: This need not be long or drawn out. It just needs a regular forum forum poster to take responsibility for seeing it through. This needs to be someone who cares more about it changing because the current one is out-of-dat than about what it changes to, ie will just shepherd the process along fairly. They have gather up enough popular choices to have a viable poll (filling what BS polling allows for max answers) from the past threads on this topic, any new ideas posted here in the next day or two, and reflecting some balance. The poll would get the run for a about a week. The forum poster who is shepherding the process may then need to weed out votes from trolls if it appears voters from other teams are swaying the election. Then the top three have a run off again for about a week and with the same troll weeding if needed. It could all be wrapped up in 2 1/2 weeks, and really it's just not that hard. Then Bill or I will take the request forward.
It's not lame, but it is a bit outdated now. However... This is pretty much what I was getting at, and a more balanced range of choices at that. I wasn't suggesting that we keep the current tagline forever or even for the entire season, but as was posted elsewhere on these boards, the team has played just one game so far this season. But if the team continues playing badly, I like the suggested tagline (from the previous forum tagline thread) "Deficio, Victoria, Calamitas, Deficio!" for the reasons explained here. Maybe, maybe not. 2005 started pretty badly on the field too before the team won the MLS Supporters' Shield that season. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
I say the tagline should read "Destruction of a Quake is unstoppeable w/ its continous aftershocks " in other words the same logistics, coaching tactics, and player transfers in the last 3 seasons that we've been back and our teams have remained the same, with no signs of advancement but only destruction.
There you go. The nature of the team is ever changing and impossible to predict. The nature of the fans in this forum is a cosmological constant.
