Agreed, but I don't believe that is whats going on here.

The news accounts indicate he complained about the behavior so the team paid him a small amount in exchange for going away and waiving claims.

    That sounds like a settlement.

Now he is saying that original settlement was unjust for several reasons and wants a new settlement.
    the full
article was linked above, here it is again:

full article here: Real Salt Lake sued: Former teen player says team did not protect him from abuse

The team paid him off earlier while he was still a minor and did not have his parents or legal counsel licensed in Utah to advise him at the time of signing the settlement agreement.

Now he is suing to get a new settlement.

Aren't agreements with minors voidable anyway?

In other loan news, Jordan Farr has been loaned to Loudoun United, and Hakim Karamoko has been loaned to Forward Madison.

IIRC, the waiver rules in MLS are strange. This isn't a buyout - or at least DCU is not calling it that -- so I believe Herrera still is under contract. Therefore, if another MLS team "claims" Herrera off waivers, they need to negotiate something regarding allocation of the remaining salary with DCU. I could be completely wrong, but this would be a way to get "something" back for Herrera because his regular season contract amount was a millstone to any trade.

Does this mean that United could get any remuneration from a non-MLS team? Is he a total free agent now who can negotiate with anyone outside of MLS, and DC is owed no compensation?

They'd get salary cap relief for whatever the other team will pick up of his salary, yep. Nothing else unfortunately. I'm pretty sure they're still on the hook for all of Badji's salary for instance.

He sounds like a fit for the Cleveland Browns. Maybe they’ll sign him and a DCU will get relief.

I compared the releases for when Badji and Schnegg were waived vs. the Herrera waiving, and there were relatively glowing comments made about Badji and Schnegg compared to nothing for Herrera. Either he totally burned his bridges here, or the RSL related lawsuit helped make United's decision easy for them.

    Both?

He should’ve have been waived/traded/bought out after his pathetic petulance and quitting on the team multiple times last year.

The fact that we know he’s probably a POS off the field as well just completes the picture.

It looks like entire stadium will likely be open for this one. Hopefully the back-up backup QB can step up and the Defenders go back to back.

I'm surprised they didn't go out with paint for this one since there's a concert on Thursday with tens of seats and pit tickets left.

International Friendly to be announced tomorrow. Start the speculation....

my guess is a mid-tier EPL team, but I would prefer an Italian team...

    From my rep:

Something international is on the horizon. The next match in your season membership package will be revealed tomorrow, and it’s one you’ll want to be ready for.

An exciting European squad is coming to town, bringing a fresh style, rich culture, and distinct football traditions. This matchup promises a unique clash you won’t find anywhere else on the schedule.

Keep an eye on your inbox and D.C. United channels tomorrow for the official announcement. Once you receive that message, your presale will begin right away if you would like to add additional tickets or upgrade for this event.
