I will jump in. On Frieday the fo announced Meet the Squad day for ST buyers is Tuesday evening. Or is it? Apparently it is only 4 players: only Baribo, Markovic, Hopkins and Clark are scheduled. I hope (would like to say expect but....) they are planning a more robust event when it is warmer with more of the squad....
Just curious how you might expect them to do the Q&A format with the entire team on Tuesday? This Q&A interests me more than a mass picture/autograph session.
You are right. I was going after the FO for bait and switch of "give the first impression of meet the squad but it really only 4." But they could have most of the players there but also only q/a with only a few.
Way back aways under Kevin Payne the club always started with a pre-season luncheon that over the years bounced around various venues: down-town, federal triangle, even National Harbor. Those and the post-season events were great because the whole team was there, and a player was at every one of the two dozen or so tables. Moneys went to the DC United Foundation (or whatever it was called back then) I even remember an in-season event at a sports club downtown around 2020. Must have been post-Kevin Payne because only two or three players were there. These seriously need to be re-vitalized.
It's always been advertised as 4. That's what it was advertised when I got the first email and grabbed my ticket.
Yes. And tbh, definitely making a molehill of an anthill. But the graphic and 1st para of the email isnt "q&a w new signings" or "Meet 4 players." Its Meet the Squad." Just more of the typical from this fo. Cant wait for the next "state of the united" event from this fo.
According to Forbes, DC United is the 3rd most profitable team in the league, and the two clubs ahead were both in the CWC last summer. Without that DC would have been #2 (the gap between us and Inter is too big for the CWC to be the difference.) So we are successful in one aspect. https://www.forbes.com/sites/justin...tm_source=ForbesMainTwitter&utm_medium=social
I called this out some time late last year. They made $10M, which coincidently is almsot exactly the cash difference between being a top 5 and a bottom 5 spender in the league. Levien is good at making money and I suspect that he doesn't need DC United to do it, its all an ego thing and its insulting to see them make that much money, taking with both hands from the fans and returning shit.
In the spirit of supporting the team but giving as little money to Levien as possible, I’m happy to report that I snagged tickets for Saturday on the resale market. They are (marginally) better seats than I’ve been in for years and I saved more than 25% from what I’ve been paying for season tickets in previous seasons. Pretty solid for the season opener and a reasonable weather forecast. I’m not sure what type of cut Jason gets from ticketmaster fees, but even a small amount of this transaction getting funneled to him still represents at least 95% less money to ownership from me for this game than in previous years.
interns doing the editing in the advertising dept again? Good thing it's not summer and they were trying to tie this in with a dive theme....
Moby Dick Kabobs are now Kabob partner of DC United https://www.mobyskabob.com/moby-dic...HnGmr-7nqiBa_3vfDDuIF8ZgREcjeZcpWd_7RnYjGEgzN
Big miss by the Front Office only having 4 metal detectors open at Gate B tonight. What was up with that?
Here's my say that MLS planned alignment with the European schedule is a mistake. Imagine playing several games in the type of weather we have less than 24 hours after playing Philly? Stupid.
New, new Talon debuted last night. It's not on the official website, but in a few social media posts. I assume Talon spent the off-season hanging out with right-wing influencers, visiting Turkiye and looksmaxxing. The incels behind me at the game were impressed.
