Hello All! I'm a new soccer fan (thanks to World Cup '02) and new Dallas Burn fan. A couple of questions: 1) when did the rivalry with the Fire start? any details would be appreciated. 2) all guessing and theorizing aside, what do you think the chances are of the Burn staying at the cotton bowl? Good to meet all of you, and glad to be here!
Brings me onto something I've always wondered...is there any reason for the supposed Brimstone rivalry other than the two teams have similar names?
http://www.3rddegree.net/ Above site should answer the first question and others involving Burn history. I'm not sure anybody outside of the Burn and HSG know the answer to the second.
http://www.brimstonecup.com/ try the history section and games section. and Texan thanks for the plug.
1. I would also say that for several years, the Burn Fire games were very intense and physcial (yes Dema broke Pollards leg but that was not only thing). 2 They met several times in the playoffs. 3. US Open Cup - Chicago beating Dallas 5-1 in Chicago in quaterfinals. 4. Quit a few independent observers say that Game 3 of the 99 Burn/Fire series was the Best Game in MLS History. I am not making that up, there was a big thread about it once on Big Soccer.
reminiscing... It all started when Kosecki took a dive in the USOC game back in 98 to get a penalty kick. It got quite chippy after that. When it was all said and done, Chicago knocked off the defending champs Dallas. That game was played in New Orleans.
Re: Re: New fan, a couple of questions about the Burn I peddle soccer, but I must warn any new fans about those guys who wear skirts... I've heard of hooligans, but OMG!
1) Both teams are in cities that are second fiddle "culturally" to NY and LA. 2) Both teams played their early years in big old historical but overly spacious stadia. 3) Both teams played in in later early years in pathetic little high school or community college stadia, while their SSS were being built. 4) They are the Ying and Yang. Dallas being all that is good. Chicago being all that is evil.
I sure hope you're wrong on this count. Despite its failings, the Cotton Bowl is much superior to Southlake's puny HS field.
Re: Re: New fan, a couple of questions about the Burn Damn skippy, thats what happened to me. Found a group of people who like to voice their opinions during the game.
I just found this site, it's so cool to see how many people write about the Burn. Never thought there was something like this. When did all these forums start?
You will surely be hooked. The atmosphere with the Inferno is so much better than the library side. March is WAAAYYY too long away!
Ask Dustin he can tell you, I think I remember them being around in 98 or 99, but I am no expert on big soccer. http://www.3rddegree.net/
I knew about 3rddegree already, but not about this. So all the people that write on 3rd also use this forum?
