Shame. As Tom Reed was really good - Could tell he was a fan of the sport and not just using the Crew beat as a stepping stone to other things. Please welcome Andrew Erickson ( @AErickson_Trib ) to @DispatchAlerts. He will cover #CrewSC & OSU women's hoops. He starts Wednesday.— Tom Reed (@treed1919) December 20, 2016
Reed's twitter bio still indicates he's on the Crew 'beat.' Maybe they'll share duties? I agree, he was much better than anyone else the Dispatch has had covering the team. He knows the sport a bit and wasn't in thrall to the FO.
Went to the CBJ beat - Because they need 3 people whilst the Crew needs a work experience person who doesn't have a clue.
By the way, here's his LinkedIn page: https://www.linkedin.com/in/andrew-erickson-01373475 Graduated from UCLA in 2015; has had about 1,000 different jobs, most as a student; this gig is his 5th (!) job since graduation. I wouldn't bet much on Mr. Erickson being around very long. He did cover the Crew during his 3 month long internship with the Dispatch a year ago, which appears to be the sum total of his 'experience' covering soccer. So, you know, there's that.
While it would be great if the Crew were able to get more mainstream exposure through The Dispatch, I've gotten so used to them ignoring the Crew that I don't really care how they cover the team. There are plenty of other local reporters who cover the club.
There are? Other than writers from the official mls site, writers from the official crew site, and massive report (which is just guys copy and pasting news from elsewhere, which I'm not criticizing them for, its just the truth)?
Meh... I'm not gonna miss him personally. I listened to the podcast he and some other guy did. It didn't say anything i didnt already know, make any interesting observations, or offer any new insights. I seem to be in the minority though.
He changed his twitter handle already. Now it is: AEricksonCD anyway, Jardy didn't know much when he started but gave it his best effort and was pretty darn good. If he can attend practices and get at least a few daily tweets, that's not a bad start.
Shawn Mitchell was also unfamiliar with soccer when he picked up the beat. He was great, too. Sent from my mobile device
What exactly do you want? Someone full-time reporting on the Crew? That's not happening unless you count Stec or one of the team employees. If you want gossip, go read MLS Transfers. If you want league news, follow Goff. If you want regular updates from training and pre/post-match coverage, follow one of the other local reporters who cover that. If you want to read illogical ramblings, follow bigsoccer.
It all starts tomorrow when the Penquins come to town. Sid & the boys will put 5-6 goals on them and they will shrink back into the little hole they crawled out of after years of hibernating.
The CBJ beat only has 2 reports, Reed and Portzline, Arace is a general sports reporter/columnist. Tom was juggling both the Crew beat and the Jackets beat at the same time.
Considering that they top the power rankings, and had a good win last night (10th win, a franchise record IIRC), this is easily their best start to a season. And I'm not your father...
When there isn't news you can always make it up. http://www.crewture.net/2012/07/772012-lille-free-agent-ireneusz-jelen.html And hope the team signs the person in the story you made up: http://www.crewture.net/2012/07/7312012-warzycha-jelen-will-not-play.html http://www.przegladsportowy.pl/pilk...ce-do-columbus-crew,artykul,145401,1,293.html I will make sure the Crew sign a Polak this way some day. I think I've done this with Maciej Zurawski as well, and 3 or 4 others in general. Practice for Robert Lewandowski when he's 35.
Dom Tiberi calls himself a Crew #insider. Even has a pic of the Nordeke banner as his twitter avatar. That isn't good enough for you?
