It is significant that Eddie Robinson is traveling with the team. Maybe we'll see Frank make his first substitute in three games. It might be necessary with both Mulrooney and Donovan playing with the National Team tonight.
did anyone else find it interesting that frankie mentioned that the quakes aren't a counter-attacking team? i thought in 2001 our main strategy was to score first and then counter for our second and third...
Generally speaking though, the Quakes don't sit back, absorb pressure and then go for the quick strike. They often build from the back, knock the ball around and get everyone involved and pressure in the offensive third. That's not classic counterattacking strategy. With Ching, they are playing a little more long ball than in the past, but that's still not a counterattack strategy. Glad to see Eddie traveling, but I think he'll only play a) if he passes a fitness test and b) just as importantly, if one of the current back four is injured or something happens to them. Otherwise, I don't think we'll see him this week. I would like to see Arturo get some minutes in to relieve Lagos on the left or Donovan up front if Landon can't go a full 90 after Thursday's night match.
Ah right, fair enough, but what I meant vwas, that the 2001 Quakes attacked early and often scoring first and then sat back able to pick and chose their moments when to attack...granted I mean this more for our style of play on the road. Hear, hear I agree with that. I mean what's the point of having great youth talent if you don't start seasoning them a bit. Hell, I'd settle for the last quarter of an hour considering how long Donovan played on the US-Mexico match. I hope he starts Arturo during USOC time, at least in the earlier rounds.
I never felt we were a counter attacker, I've felt we win or tie bye hard work, pace and most importantly.......possesion. Dominate possesion and you will increase your chances and decrease your opponents. The good thing is, Yallop has created a plan that allows this team to win with players that aren't as skilled as most.
