I am truly sorry to see Simpson go. He's been a mainstay at United for a while and made the successful transition from player to coach. I wish him luck in his future endeavors.
Best of luck to Simpson and Onalfo. I knew Onalfo was joining the Bruce, but I didn't realize Simpson was leaving too. Hopefully this was his choice for career advancement, and part of a staff clear-out. Anyone know whose decision that really was? In any event, I hope they both enjoy success at their new places. Good to see Petrosian getting a full-time spot there too. With the likely acquisition of Eskandarian on the horizon, it seems to be a good time for Armenians over at DCU. I'll be waiting for my call... (or do I at least have to send them my resume first...?)
Sad to see Simpson go, as he's been a mainstay at United for a while. I wish him luck in all future endeavors.
I, too, think he has done a good job and am sorry to see him go. Has anyone heard of who might be considered for the vacant position? Winoman
Does every team have a goalkeeper coach? I will say this about the other coaching and conditioning staff. Everyone seems to speak very highly of Guter, who was bounced about a month ago. But I do remember at the end of last year noticing that United led the league in games missed due to injury and the year before that they were neck and neck with one other team. All I can say is that I hope we have better luck this year. If the new group can help with that so be it.
Simpson Gone? Steve Goff's report in today's Post says Simpson is gone to the A league. Why? He did an awesome job with Rimando. If you recall, Nick's first few games had a lot of positioning and decision-making errors. He massively improved his tacital play and apparent understanding of the play. It seems like Mark did a really great job preparing him. I think we will regret Mark being gone.
Moderator Help Please didn't see the other thread--little too hyped up about mark being gone. please merge this, thanks.
Damn, there goes our golf partner we had in the United for DC charity tournament this past Summer. Best of luck in your new position Mark, who is a nice person on and off the field. He did a great job coaching with Rimando this past season. I'll have to head to a Mariners game or two while visiting relatives in VA Beach. Bill
Simpson Gone? Mark's got a promotion to Assistant Coach at the Mariners. Rather than dissatisfaction being the motive for the move, I believe it is a step up the career ladder. We'll miss him. I hope Ray and Dave have a good replacement in mind. GM
Good for Mark then, although it would have been nice if we could have kept him. I guess I jumped to a conclusion here, I just assumed it was more of Ray getting "his" guys. Well we all know what happens when you assume.
From what I have read, the new owner of the Hampton Roads team is trying to do a first class job down there. He rescued the team mid season when the old owner was not able to pay the players and many of them were packed and ready to move on. Hopefully Mark can help that organization to grow and this will lead to better things for him. Also, as Bill notes, there are many good golf courses down there where Mark can get that handicap down below 0 and head for the Snior Tour when he gets older.
