According to football365.com, Tommy Taylor is the new head coach for the Spice Boyz. Taylor played on West Ham's 1975 FA Cup winning side. I wonder if this hire signals Grenada's intention to make some noise in the Gold Cup? There are only five weeks to go until the tournament begins, so I don't know how much impact this will have on Grenada. Anyone out there from the Caribbean with more information and insight on this? Thanks, in advance.
Apparently he's trying to get Jermaine Beckford and Bradley Wright-Phillips to join up. A strike force of Beckford and Roberts (with BWP off the bench or on the wing) could rival any striker force in CONCACAF. I'd say Beckford has a chance of playing for England one day (ok that might be a stretch) but I hope he chooses Grenada. Delroy Facey is supposed to be eligible and was even called up once I think but apparently he's dropped off the radar (though still in League 2 and I think he was top scorer for Notts County with one more goal than Barbadian Jonathan Forte). http://www.grenadabroadcast.com/content/view/5160/1/ http://www.grenadabroadcast.com/content/view/5160/1/ Who could Roberts/Beckford be rivaled by? Scotland/Jones/John maybe, Fuller/King/Shelton maybe, Altidore + Dumpsey isn't as good as any of these when on their game (yet at least for Altidore), Mexico has Vela and ??, Ticos? Honduras have Costly? I suppose if Guadeloupe or Martinique could bring in their big guns (Henry, Wiltord, Anelka, etc.) they would be that probably won't happen soon. Of course its all speculation until these folks actually show up
Beckford and Wright-Phillips are apparently not going to be joining up with Grenada (barring something changing soon) and Shalrie Joseph and Jason Roberts have not committed yet (Joseph has expressed interest and Roberts is retired but was in Grenada for a Liverpool Legends match so who knows). However it does seem that former Premier League striker Delroy Facey has accepted a call up and theres a young player for Gillingham named Rimmel Daniel who has joined up with the squad as well as Byron Bubb. They have 12 overseas based players in all (without Roberts and Joseph) http://www.spicegrenada.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=section&layout=blog&id=14&Itemid=78
