He's reserving his energy for later!!!!

Can we possibly make more of a deal out of who will be captain? This season, considering all that's gone on, and all that's on the line, Morrow is, in effect, the captain.

Al Dia had a story over the weekend about the search for a new capitain. It assumes that Ruiz will get it. In the story, Ruiz talks openly about the internal fighting the team experienced last year and how he would address it this season.

I appreciate that Gabriel has made sure the team continues to get coverage since the other guy left.

I don't have time to translate the entire piece, but here are the highlights:

    * Naming a capitain should be easy, but it's a hard job for Morrow because this team had a lot of "internal divisions" last season.

    * Morrow wants someone that the players admire and respect.

    * Ruiz is the top candidate

    * Gabriel says no one can doubt Ruiz's qualifications, but he has a different leadership style. While Valakari and Pareja tried to motivate and support their teammates in a constant manner, Ruiz is more reserved.
    * The team hopes Ruiz can lead by example and bring the winner's passion that the team lacked last year.
    * There is an argument that Pescadito is not Morrow's ideal captain. In previous years he has missed training and games without an excuse. That hasn't happened this season.
    * There are also doubts that Ruiz can lead the team past the internal problems that occured last year.
    * Last year, Valakari lacked the support of some of the team's leaders inside the team. At the same, time Ruiz indicates that Valakari was one of the best capitains he ever had. But he acknowledges that there were problems inside the team.

    * Morrow says this is a new era and leadership is a coach's responsbility. He says that won't be a problem with this year's group.

    * Ruiz wants and is prepared to be capitain. His style would be to call team meetings during the bad times to work things out and have barbecues at his house during the good times.

Pretty sure it'll be Ruiz. Has to be an all the time starter and he's just about the only one inked in.
