Hello all! I was driving into work today and turned on 101.1 around 8.45AM and low and behold my favorite DCU player was being interviewed- Olsen! Well among random boring stuff they touched on his injury. According to him he was going to have surgery this past Monday but backed out at the last second because a new scan showed a glimmer of hope that he wouldn't need it. He's decided to try and fight through it and said he would be training today with the team!!! He said he knew he'd be in pain but he wanted to get back to playing and wished he was playing on Sunday. He also mentioned everyone knew he would have as many surgeries as possible to ensure he can play BUT did say there is a point were quality after the game has to come into context so there would be a limit. He said if he could fight through the pain and everything seemed ok, physically he was in good form, he would just need to practice with the team to get his game back on track! If things didn't go well he'd go into surgery which he wasn't sure would cure him... So possible good news, hope the training went well today and if anyone has heard anything about it please post!! Been holding out on getting a name on the back of my jersey to see if Olsen would get a chance to play in it! Get better Olsen the team needs you!!!!!!
Wow. Thanks for the glimmer of hope. I just hope he doesn't over-do things with his ankle, and wind up in worse shape than he was before. (I don't know if that's even possible!)
Somewhere I got the impression that Ben may occasionally indulge in the use of tobacco products. I hope I'm wrong about that, but if true, he needs to quit the evil weed. It impairs circulation and slows healing. Does anyone have knowledge of Ben's habits, or lack there of?
Color me less than hopeful. I'd love to see him back on the field but I don't expect him to come back midseason and have anything close to his old form. I'd sure hope to be wrong though.
I'm assuming he's still been doing a lot of aerobics training (like on the bike) to stay in shape while not stressing the ankle - Continued light touches and juggling the ball keep up the basic skills while also not stressing the ankle - We'll have to see how well this goes through more rigorous passes I too am not expecting him mid-season, but if he could start to contribute minutes and leadership in Sept/Oct, that would be golden
I've read that he used to smoke the occassional cigarette at bars, nothing to worry about. And that's old news; I wouldn't be surprised if he even gave that up. Especially after the scare Kevin Payne had.
Can they transplant ankles? We're paying a ton for Franco Niell's and he doesn't seem to be using them much for us. Just kidding. Of course.
I spoke to him briefly at the golf outing about his ankle. He said he can go forward and side-to-side but he can't really cut on it right now. He did mention he was going to make a go of it one more time for this season but to be honest he didn't sound too confident. Also, he hates the Dick's commercial. He thought it was ok at first but has now been played to death.
I ran into him several times when I lived in Adams Morgan, and never saw him smoking. Even ran into him and the missus at a baby store recently.
I however am apparently Ben Olsen's size (his jersey is a perfect fit). If they have developed ankle transplant surgery, he is welcome to mine. I only use mine for jogging...
