Those of you in the know, please help. I have been told that the Burn have offered Oscar the assistant coaching job, and he is luke-warm about even considering. I have also hear the name of a guy "Perez", who if I heard correctly is prefering to wait on a Chivas job. But I have no idea who this guy is. Furthermore, I understand that the Burn have also made an offer to a guy with local connections, who is NOT on a first name basis with Clarke. I don't have too much faith in my source, but they might be right. Can any of you in the loop confirm any of this? Who is Perez? And furthermore, who would the guy with local connections be?
Theo - Perez is probably LA Assistant Coach Perez, but like you, I had heard he was going south to work. Local guy? hmmm - no idea. Ed Puskaritch?
This was in MLS Confidential" "Revs' assistant John Murphy was in Dallas Tuesday to be interviewed for the Burn assistant position, for which Fire assistant Daryl Shore and ex-Burn midfielder Brian Haynes are also being considered. As reported in the Confidential two weeks ago, Ralph Perez has left his position as Galaxy assistant coach. He will work in the team's front office as well as with the U.S. under-23s. The Galaxy is searching for a replacement.
LA signed a coach, Martin Vasquez. As for the rest I will see what I can find out, but as it's the weekend I make no promises.
John Murphy is more of a goalkeeper coach, I think. And a good one from what I hear. DJ could maybe use a new professor.
His first name is Ralph, Ralph Perez, and he may even have been on staff as far back as Osiander, though I am not sure. The other guy, who knows. There are so many club coaches and former pros in the DFW area, it's anyone's guess. Tatu? Just a wild guess. On Oscar--Of Chad, Jason, and Oscar, Oscar is the one I will miss the most. I like Kreis but Oscar was more passionate on the field. He risked his personal health and bones on the field trying to carry the team to win, against people a lot bigger than he was. Some people (like Bradley) thought he was chippy, but he suffered so many fouls-against every single game, I didn't blame him when he dished out some pain. I respect him in every aspect and if he does not want to be Clarke's assistant, that seems reasonable. Pareja earned his pride and if he thinks that is not for him, it's not. I would like better for Oscar to be on the active roster until the All Star Break, then retire to assistant coach. That puts him the MLS coaching cadre, and this is good for the entire league. And with Nuñez likely to join the Burn, he gets half a season of mentoring with an active Pareja.
Mike had three assistants plus a 'keeper coach. Is HSG denying Colin assistants? Why is Haynes interviewing? He is part of the staff, unless Colin does not want him. So far, his only assistant is Steve Morrow, a worthy choice, but Haynes should also be on the staff. I beleive once Oscar considers things, he would serve as a player coach. He knows he has too much knwolege to squander. I would shed no tears if Kris were to depart. DJ was slow to develop, and Flash took no steps forward.
