I don't know if anyone has heard the news of a new soccer magazine that is in circulation now. It is called 90:00 minutes. Check it out at www.soccerdev.com. I ordered my new subscripition to show support of the game.
I'm hoping its much better then SA. If anything at least having competition, we might see some improvement from SA.
SA would be the rave of soccer fans if they could just get rid of Uncle Paulie as their feature writer. They need someone in their late 20's or early 30's with a gen-x attitude toward the Old World, the Birthing Beatch of soccer, bloody old England. If they had a feature writer worthy of the name, they'd be fine. But they continue to let that tired old horse run the ring, and it's dragging them down. As bad as you think they ARE, they WERE worse. But I did go the site and order by copy. We shall see.
Yep, I ordered a two year subscription. I think any soccer magazine in English will have better coverage than the mercury news, that old rag. I need my soccer fix every once in a while when this season ends.
I received my comp copy of 90 minutes in the mail yesterday. It's not bad, but everything was focused on the World Cup. I have no idea how long this first issue has been out, but I hope it doesn't fall into the World Soccer trap of all the news from two months ago. I'll give it another issue before making an ultimate decision.
I wholeheartly agree with Viking64. Gardner has not had a new thought in 20 years, he just rehashs his favorite rantings: i.e., all coaches suck; Hispanic soccer has been blessed from above; all TV commentors (except himself) suck..... The sad thing is, World Soccer also prints his dribble as if it is representative of soccer writing in this country.
What I would like see from a US soccer magazine aside from indepth coverage of MLS, and USL are more articles like you might find in FourTwoFour. Interesting articles about the fans, players, teams, the history of the game, etc. Rather then the usual state of the league, review of the match, along with loads of AYSO, college, and WUSA stuff I myself skip over. And who care what Landon Donovans favorite movie is? And shouldn't this thread be somewhere else, not that I don't like.
I subscribe to both, but I think 90:00 minutes needs some time to get things smoothed out, but from the looks of it and some of the articles, it is pretty good. I'm no big fan of Gardner either in SA, I used to watch the mexican league before I got Fox Sports World because that's all that was on, but now after watching EPL, the mexican league is pretty boring. Of course all the world's stars play in Europe so the quality of soccer is much better and why Gardner bashes it is beyond me. They need fresh editors, I'm tired of his negativity. Other than that SA is pretty good, don't care for WUSA either but the youth and college page is okay, I want to know what's coming up the pipe for the future of US soccer.
New magazine Be aware, this magazine is being put out by the same folks who were going to rescue the Seals a couple of years ago. When they bought thr Seals I invested some $$ in their company, to show my support. Needless to say, due to gross mismanagement, both my $$ as well as the Seals, are gone.
Thanks for the heads up, zaha. When I telephoned to subscribe, the fellow asked if I knew that they were publicly traded and said he would send along some info in that regard. ....not that I have the big $$$ to invest anyway.
My pleasure, Big Mamma. I took a beating of several thousands of $$ with this company and don't like others to get sucked in. My prediction is that you won't get your full subscription filled. These people don't understand football and are in it for the money only, not for the love of the game. The link will show you how they have done the last 2 years. Good luck! www.smallcapcenter.com/snapshot_chart.asp?ticker=BDLF
