    Edited to say Robinson was released from Blackburn, so Yelldell would be Rovers' #3 now.

    His name rings a faint bell but I'm coming up blank. Most of the Internet mentions of this guy are of the Blackburn story though he seems to have played for at least one other, smaller, German club.

    Nice find, Father Ted.

    Hmm. Looks like Stuttgarter Kickers were relegated from the Regionalliga Süd this season... Olaf?

    It's obvious to me at least that he is just trying to gravy train on just how great America is at the keeper position. I mean he isn't proud enough to say he is German which is by our standards an ok keeper nation. Now all keepers will be "American" in an attempt to increase their profile. Especially nice play at Blackburn were Souness already has shown he likes an American in goal.

    It's funny that when it's just another American goalkeeper, we are all very..well..ho-hum about it. If he was say a right full back, we would all be clammering to get more info on the guy.
    Just shows how much strength we have in the goalkeeper position.

    Yelldell will fight with Kelly for the back-up keeper role behind Friedel and you would think that he could be a prospect for the post-Brad era at Rovers.

    Can't find much info on the guy. If you click here...

    http://www.stuttgarter-kickers.de/verein/mannschaft_zweite.asp#Teamfoto

    ... you can see a team photo. He's the goalkeeper on the left in the yellow shirt. Click on "hier klicken" below the subheading "Mannschaftsbild mit Bildlegende downloade" for a larger version.

    Looks like David was the main GK for SK's second team this season. They finished seventh of 18 in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg. Not sure if he would have played against any other YAs, but the amateur sides of Karlsruher FC (Cummins?) and Waldof Mannheim (someone I can't remember and could be wrong about) were in that division.

    David was a new addition to the team from TSG Backnang. Interestingly, it seems SK lost two players who came to the US to become students: Andreas Geser (a GK himself) and Bernd Mülhbauer. Both appear to have played last season for Rollins College in Florida, but neither are on the 2003 roster currently listed on the school's website.

    Paging Mr. Myernick, Mr. Glenn Myernick...

    Rovers have agreed an undisclosed fee with German outfit Stuttgart Kickers for the 21-year-old shot-stopper.
    <snip>
    Yeldell, who holds both German and US passports, was first recommended to Souness by a contact on the continent.
    <snip>
    "He's 6ft 4, he's athletic and we believe he has great raw potential so it's up to us to bring that out of him.

    DJ is the guy on the U23 team but, as much as I like Doug Warren, Mooch should at least consider this guy. Especially since a lot of the GKs in our U23 pool and in the 6-0, 6-1, category, it would be nice to have a bigger 'keeper out there.

    If Big Brad stays at B-Burn, I think a simple phone call from Mooch asking for an opinion should suffice. If Brad says the kid is worth a look, I think Mooch should call him into a camp and see how the kid stacks up against DJ and Warren.

    If he's got game, great, our Olympic pool just got deeper. If not, all it cost was a plane ticket and it still send a message to the other two 'keepers not to be complacent.

    Yank keeper at Blackburn? (not Brad)

    Ok,

    Here's the link.
    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=269458&cc=5901

    It looks like Blackburn are adding another keeper to their roster. Was going to have a joke and ask if people thought Brad might be afraid for his job, then decided to play the other angle.

    Apparently this 21 year old, David Yelldell, has dual citizenship: German and American.

    Anyone know anything at all about him?
    Does he classify as a Yank Abroad?
    Has he been capped at any level by Germany?

    Inquiring minds want to know... (or at least I'm curious)
    If nothing else, Brad can teach him to speak like an American :)
