    :ROFLMAO:
Mother slaps Feyenoorder on the wrist after 'stupid action'
Givairo Read was rapped on the knuckles on Sunday after the 3-2 victory over FC Utrecht.
Not by coach Robin van Persie or a teammate, but by his own mother.
Read appeared in front of the ESPN camera after the game.
At that moment, the full-back was still speaking with his mother on the phone, giving Hans Kraay jr. an interesting opening.
Mum turned out to be very critical of his performance. "First half was a bit mediocre, but second half was more than a pass," Kraay was told by Read's mother. She added to that story: "He really did his best. The yellow card was a very stupid action." He received that yellow card for holding Miguel Rodríguez. According to him, his mother is not quite right. "I think it was necessary, because otherwise he is gone with one through ball. I had to do it and then I had to play carefully."

National coach Tomasson pops up as a linesman at Barendrecht. (Amateur club about a mile from my home and starting club of Dumfries).

Jon Dahl Tomasson is currently the national coach of Sweden, but appears to have another position on the side: that of linesman at BVV Barendrecht Under-14. That was evident last weekend at a league match of the South Holland amateur club.
The 49-year-old Tomasson can prepare with Sweden in the World Cup qualifying series for two home games against Switzerland (October 10) and Kosovo (October 13). On the eve of those important matches, the former striker of SC Heerenveen, Feyenoord and AC Milan, among others, was present at a league match of his youngest son Liam, who plays for Barendrecht Under-14.
Tomasson and his wife have a house in Rotterdam and their eldest son also plays football: Luca is active at Feyenoord Under-19.
For the duel between Barendrecht Under-14 and the peers of the Zeeland JVOZ, Tomasson decided to take on the role of linesman. Whether he played a decisive role in Barendrecht's 3-1 victory is not known...

'It all seemed so simple under Arne Slot' - Feyenoord chief admits huge mistake after Liverpool manager's exit from Dutch club
Story by Soham Mukherjee • 2w •2 min read

    Slot the king of Anfield
Klopp’s shock exit last year threw Liverpool into chaos, but Slot’s arrival sensationally steadied the ship. His first season in charge ended with Liverpool cruising to the league title and making a statement on the European stage. Already this season, his men have four league wins from four, plus an opening Champions League triumph over Atletico Madrid to underline their resurgence.

    Feyenoord left in turmoil
Back in Rotterdam, life without Slot has been turbulent. The board initially turned to Brian Priske to continue the success, but the experiment failed spectacularly. Priske lasted only until February 2025 before being shown the door, with Pascal Bosschaart thrown in as caretaker. It was chaos, and Feyenoord were left scrambling for stability. Eventually, club legend Robin van Persie was handed the reins earlier this year, and things have begun to steady. But even with Van Persie’s bright start, Te Kloese admits the club made a fatal miscalculation in assuming anyone could step into Slot’s shoes seamlessly.

    We took Slot for granted
Speaking candidly, Te Kloese admitted that Feyenoord’s leadership simply didn’t grasp how much of the club’s identity had been shaped by Slot.

“It was just going well, so we thought it could continue under a new manager," he said. "But look at what Arne is doing at Liverpool; it’s unique. So, we also had to assess ourselves: are the things we’re doing really that well and clearly? It all seemed so simple under Slot, but it’s not. The conclusion is that you can’t compare a new manager to Arne. That’s almost impossible.”

Why make Slot a Saint? Did not van Bronkhorst lead Feyenoord to a championship?

A saint is a bit over the top and yes, Gio got us a title too, but Slot changed (with Arnesen laying the foundation!) the way Feyenoord operates, in the academy, technical staff etc. That's what te Kloese referres to..the ignoring of what is compatible with the successful environment Slot left behind, taking for granted anybody can do what Slot did.

But once Liverpool had its sights set on Slot, was there any chance that he was going to stay in Rotterdam?

Yes, but your club is still not promoting as many academy players to the first team as Ajax do.

  8. As I already posted these are being bought away or lured before they sign a first team contract.

  9. 330809

Nope, we managed to keep him away from Tottenham, but you know when a club like Liverpool comes knocking on the door, he's gone.

This is not happening with Ajax. Most sign contracts with Ajax with only a few exceptions.

At least Feyenoord talents are fun to watch. Ajax hasn’t produced a single decent Dutch talent since Frenkie and De Ligt.

Well, this is a bit exagerated, as I'm quite hopeful about that very young CB loaned to FC Groningen. I always was positive about Baas too. I don't think he sucks, as he's lately being overly criticized. Enough decent to good ones produced, but exceptional ones are a rarity, but that goes for all academies. Exceptional ones are found and nurtured, not developed.
The club with the best output atm is AZ, with exceptional talents in Smit and Meerdink.

Agree about AZ great job, it’s just that for me Ajax should be doing 100 times better in terms of developing talent, specially Dutch talent.

  14. 330950

The decisive factor in an academy producing talents for the first team is the talent chosing the academy where to develop.
I posted a decade, most likely even longer ago in one of the US threads academies don't produce talents, they polish diamonds in the rough. You can polish pebbles till they shine, but they in the end are shiny pebbles, not diamonds.
Ajax has lost the lure for many talents to AZ.
Recently I read about one of AZ talents from Amsterdam(!) now breaking through, that he had the choice between Ajax and AZ and chose for AZ.
I bet that half of the young AZteam in the WC final against Boca Juniors a decade ago would have been playing for Ajax as the place of choice.

Player who came over from Ajax flourishes at Feyenoord: "Example"
Nick de Koning (18) has impressed with Feyenoord's first team during the international break. The young midfielder, who came over from Ajax, has also been named the first LAB Academy Player of the Month of the 2025/26 season. Feyenoord took over De Koning from Ajax in the summer of 2024, along with his younger brother Tim. Both brothers play in the Under 19s and are making a name for themselves as great talents in the Feyenoord Academy. Nick was rewarded this week with a trophy for his performance in September, something he didn't manage to do at Ajax. "Nick shows both on and off the field what hard work pays off every day. His growth since the start of the new season is therefore a wonderful example for everyone," says Zeb Jacobs, Head of Academy, on the official of Feyenoord.
The best reward for De Koning, however, was the chance to train with the first team. Robin van Persie let him train all week, which resulted in a starting spot during the friendly game against FC Dordrecht (1-2 loss). De Koning made his unofficial debut on behalf of Feyenoord, an important step in his development. Shaqueel van Persie (18) also made an impression; He even scored as a substitute. In addition to De Koning and Van Persie, several youth players were given the opportunity to show themselves during the international period, so that the flow of talent to the first team is clearly visible.

Ayase Ueda closes international period well: Eredivisie top scorer scores winning goal against Brazil.
Ayase Ueda has scored again for the national team of Japan. The Feyenoord striker scored the winning goal in the friendly match against Brazil. Earlier this week, Ueda was also on target in the duel with Paraguay.

Ueda shoots himself into Feyenoord list with Moulijn and Van der Gijp

Ayase Ueda is on a roll at Feyenoord. The Japanese striker has already scored a hat-trick against Heracles Almelo in this first half. Ueda's second goal was Feyenoord's five thousandth goal in the Eredivisie. It went very fast in Almelo on Sunday. After the first half ended, the score was 0-4 in favor of Feyenoord. Three times Ueda and once Anis Hadj Moussa. Hadj Moussa was the declarant at the 0-3, which was made by Ueda. This was goal number five thousand for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie. With that, Ueda put himself in a row with a number of special names, who managed to score an anniversary goal for Feyenoord. Henk Schouten scored the first goal ever for the Stadionclub, all-time club top scorer Cor van der Gijp made number one hundred and Coen Moulijn number five hundred. The four thousandth goal was scored on November 20, 2011 by Sekou Cissé against Vitesse.

So let's see what comes in the second half.:)

Good and not so good injury news Feyenoord
Robin van Persie gave a medical update on Feyenoord's selection during the press conference on Wednesday afternoon. Tsuyoshi Watanabe and Quinten Timber both trained in the run-up to the Europa League match against Panathinaikos, with mixed results.
Last weekend, Feyenoord had to do without Watanabe. The Japanese central defender played international matches against Paraguay and Brazil in the international period, but had to miss the duel with Heracles Almelo. He was also immediately a doubt for the Europa League duel with Panathinaikos, Van Persie said on Sunday. Now Van Persie confirmed that he will be back on Thursday.
That does not apply to Timber, who turned out to be suffering too much during training. Timber has been on the sidelines for some time. The midfielder has not played the entire month of October. He last played on September 28 against FC Groningen. He has to miss Thursday's game.

12' Goal disallowed! Feyenoord has dominated so far. Sem Steijn's offside goal seems to give confidence to the Rotterdam team. Panathinaikos has to go further and further backwards.

13' Yellow card for Karol Swiderski

18' 0-1 GOAL by Karol Swiderski! Panathinaikos was still little to be seen in front of Feyenoord's goal, but the Polish striker scored the opening goal after a revival. Feyenoord behind.

24' Crucial save Wellenreuther keeps Feyenoord alive. The Brazilian Tetê came one on one with the Feyenoord goalkeeper, but Wellenreuther saved.
It has to be better at Feyenoord.

  23. 30' The collaboration between Sem Steijn and Hadj Moussa is far from smooth. Almost every pass from Hadj Moussa to his captain does not arrive.
