Well, some facts about tomorrow's 205th "Klassieker".

First time in 42 years two foreign coaches at the helms.
With Brian Priske and Francesco Farioli, a Danish and Italian coach will face each other in the "Klassieker". It will be the first "Klassieker" with two foreign coaches since January 31, 1982, when Václav Jezek's Feyenoord drew 2-2 against Kurt Linder's Ajax.

For the sixth consecutive "Klassieker" in the Eredivisie, Ajax has a different coach on the bench. Francesco Farioli joins the ranks of Erik ten Hag, Alfred Schreuder, John Heitinga, Maurice Steijn and John van 't Schip.

The previous "Klassieker" in which both coaches made their "Klassieker" debut was Ajax's 5-1 win over Feyenoord on November 1, 2009. Back then, Martin Jol and Mario Been were the coaches. Feyenoord ended that game with nine men after red cards for midfielder Stefan Babovic ('43) and goalkeeper Rob van Dijk ('89).

    Feyenoord unbeaten in 29 matches
Feyenoord drew in four of the first six league matches, but just like leader PSV (10 wins) has not lost yet this season. Feyenoord is therefore unbeaten in the Eredivisie for 29 matches (21 wins and 8 draws), since the 1-2 defeat against PSV on December 3, 2023. Only in October 1978 - December 1979 (41) and May 1969 - May 1970 (34) did the Rotterdammers remain unbeaten in the league for at least that long.

    :cautious:
Last season, Feyenoord suffered its first defeat in its tenth league game, when it lost 2-1 at FC Twente.

Brian Priske against Ajax for the third time
In the 2020/2021 season, Feyenoord coach Brian Priske faced Ajax in the group stage of the Champions League as coach of FC Midtjylland. On November 3, 2020 (in front of 132 spectators), his team lost 1-2 in Herning, Denmark, and on November 25, 2020, it was 3-1 in an empty Johan Cruijff Arena.

:eek:None of the last ten Feyenoord coaches won their first "Klassieker" in the Eredivisie during their term. The last coach to do so was Erwin Koeman on 28 August 2005, when Feyenoord won 1-2 in Amsterdam thanks to goals from Dirk Kuyt and Salomon Kalou.

The last Italian coach to inflict a defeat on Feyenoord at De Kuip was Gianluca Vialli, who did so with Chelsea, in the second group stage of the Champions League on March 14, 2000. It then became 1-3 after goals from Gianfranco Zola, Bonaventure Kalou, Dennis Wise and Tore André Flo. Vialli passed away on June 5, 2023, from pancreatic cancer.

Last season 10-0 over two games
Feyenoord beat Ajax twice last season, with a combined goal difference of 10-0. It was 0-4 in Amsterdam (abandoned on September 24, 2023 and played out on September 27) and no less than 6-0 in Rotterdam (on April 7, 2024), then with a chance ratio of 30-1. It was Ajax's biggest defeat in all competitions since the introduction of professional football in the Netherlands in 1954. Last season, for the first time since 2005/2006, Feyenoord managed to win both meetings with Ajax in one season.

    Club record for Timon Wellenreuther
Timon Wellenreuther set a club record in Utrecht on Sunday by not losing any of his 37 league matches with Feyenoord. Goalkeeper Eddy Treijtel (1969-1970) and Icelandic striker Pétur Pétursson (1978-1979) remained unbeaten in their first 36 league games for the Rotterdammers.

Remko Pasveer oldest Ajax player ever in Classic
Ajax goalkeeper Remko Pasveer (40) can become the oldest Ajax player in the "Klassieker" since the introduction of professional football. Since 1954, only Feyenoord keeper Rob van Dijk has played in the Classic after his 40th birthday: one game as a 40-year-old in 2009 and two more times as a 41-year-old in 2010.

Three teenagers in the starting line-up at Feyenoord?
There is a good chance that Feyenoord will also be in the starting line-up against Ajax with right back Givairo Read (18), midfielder Antoni Milambo (19) and right winger Ibrahim Osman (19). For the first time since January 22, 2014, Feyenoord would start with at least three teenagers in a Classic. Back then, Sven van Beek, Tonny Vilhena and Jean-Paul Boëtius played for Feyenoord, which lost 3-1 in the quarter-finals of the KNVB Cup.

Asian goalscorers for the first time?
Feyenoord players Ayase Ueda and Hwang In-beom can become the first Asian goalscorers in the history of the "Klassieker" on Wednesday evening.

After 42 years, two foreign trainers in Klassieker: a shame or an enrichment?
    Thomas Markhorst editor NOS Sport
The last time two foreign coaches faced each other in the Classic? That was on January 31, 1982. Czech Václav Jezek (Feyenoord) and German Kurt Linder (Ajax) saw their teams draw 2-2 in Rotterdam. On behalf of Ajax, Johan Cruijff divided the game, a young Marco van Basten saw from the bench. At Feyenoord, Willem van Hanegem complained about his team: "Ten years ago we were further along than we are now." Now, 42 years later, history is repeating itself in one respect. With the Dane Brian Priske and the Italian Francesco Farioli, there are two foreigners along the line for the first time during the Classic. A shame, says one. Irrelevant, says the other.

I remember hearing rumors that Zlatan was told by his agent to get into a fight with Van der Vaart in order to force a transfer.

Just another indication of how the game has globalized, for good and bad.

  6. Quinten Timber isnot going to force something. With a good showing in the CL he comes in a top club with status.

According to AD Sportwereld Feyenoord will have Quinten Timber at their disposal against Ajax on Wednesday. The captain of the Rotterdammers has recovered in time from the ankle injury that he sustained on Sunday in the final phase of the won away game against FC Utrecht (0-2). Ayase Ueda and Bart Nieuwkoop are also fit for the postponed "Klassieker".
The Dane misses Santiago Giménez, Quilindschy Hartman and Calvin Stengs in the Classic. Jordan Lotomba is almost fit again, but Ajax at home comes too early for the Swiss. Quinten Timber is in top shape, as is Ayase Ueda. Timber hobbled off the field in Utrecht and Ueda was even missing there completely, but they are back for the "Klassieker". And even Bart Nieuwkoop is available for Priske again after a long absence.

I read that Priske has finally seen the light and Wellenreuther has finally been benched in favor of Bijlow.
Van Hanegem amongst many have simply had enough as well I’ve been reading.
It had to be coming as the German has allowed some bad goals because of mindless decisions like we saw on Wednesday along with technical errors like we also so against Ajax midweek.
I recall last season in the Champions League match at Atletico were Feyenoord was praised for playing great football by the Spanish and World media alike (Rightfully so I may add) unfortunately lost the match in part due to some weak/slack Goalkeeping by the German who was replacing the oft injured Bijlow early in the season.
It will be interesting to see how Bijlow performs here after his failed physical at EPL strugglers Southampton.

    Human compassion overcoming rivalry boundaries.
We too often see lunatic "fan"-behaviour towards fans of rivalry clubs.
So it's refreshing to see this:

Ajax fan Martin Tonkes and Feyenoord fan André van Dam. The latter recently donated a kidney to his 'rival' from Amsterdam, which is why he is still alive today. On Wednesday evening, they will watch the Classic together. © Frank de Roo
Ajax fanMartin never expected to find an organ donor via Facebook, but then Feyenoord fan André responded
Due to kidney failure, diehard Ajax fan Martin Tonkes (58) hardly had a life left. And then there was André van Dam (53), a fanatical Feyenoord supporter. De Gouwenaar donated one of his kidneys to his fellow townsman and 'rival'. Wednesday evening (18.00 hours) the two, now bosom friends, watch the Classic together. "With the Feyenoord kidney in his body, Martin suddenly knows a lot more about football." Dennis van Bergen 30-10-24, 07:00 Last update: 30-10-24, 11:35

Well Feyenoord replaced Wellenreuther with Bijlow but that still didn't heal the "walk about" disease. Justin gifted AZ their first goal with his own walk about.

But Feyenoord prevailed because some bench players finally produced with sufficient minutes given Feyenoord's long injury list. Carranza assisted on the first two goals (Paixao and Ivanusec), and Hadj Moussa created havoc in the box that lead to the match winner (Osman). Feyenoord ran out 3-2 winners over their competition for third place.

Ayase Ueda is out until the winter break, so Jullian Carranza will be the starting striker and gets his chance to prove himself extensively. From 1908:

The Argentinian striker of Feyenoord entered into many duels with his direct opponent. Former Feyenoord player Pierre van Hooijdonk thinks Carranza is stronger in the duels than first striker Gimenez, he says at Studio Voetbal on NOS.

"He literally and figuratively, but especially figuratively, brings more weight to the battle as a point of contact," Van Hooijdonk begins about the 24-year-old Carranza. "Against AZ he was very important in that. He showed a number of good things, such as getting to the first post, laying off balls, and winning headers. He plays more aggressively in that role than Santiago Gimenez."

That is a compliment coming from Pi-Air, who was a legend in De Kuip. I wish Feyenoord had someone like Pi-Air to take free kicks around the box.

And Bijlow out again with minor issues.
I at the start of the season already wrote the vulnerability of Vincent is a major hazard and we need a quality goalie who's not that injury prone.
Why we didnot go after Olij is baffling.

Nick Marsman was a free transfer at the start of the season.

  20. 284272

Nick would be an expensive option for back up, while the main issue is to have the keeper spot filled in for the coming years at a highe level, in which case the young Olij would have been the way to go at the start of the season.
Marsman is an excellent temporary solution, but his age is a stand in the way for being a long term option.

  21. Pepijn Lijnders with battered RB Salzburg to De Kuip for duel with Feyenoord

Red Bull Salzburg is struggling with a lot of personnel problems in the run-up to Wednesday's away game with Feyenoord in the Champions League. Danish talents Mads Bidstrup and Maurits Kjærgaard are ill and missed the last training session before the game in the Kuip, but will probably participate on Wednesday evening.
Coach Pepijn Lijnders is also without Amar Dedic, Fernando, Takumi Kawamura, Bryan Oko and Moussa Yeo. Goalkeeper Alexander Schlager is suspended. The RB Salzburg website states that it is still uncertain whether Lucas Gourna-Douath, Mads Bistrup, Maurits Kjaergaard and Petar Ratkov will be able to play against Feyenoord.
Lijnders has made a difficult start as coach of RB Salzburg. Jürgen Klopp's former assistant at Liverpool led his team past FC Twente in the Champions League qualifying rounds. But after three games in the main tournament of European club football, RB Salzburg is still on 0 points. Also in the national league, RB Salzburg is disappointing for the time being, with a fourth place and a deficit of 8 points to leader Sturm Graz.

45+2' With seconds to go for halftime, Wellenreuther rolls the ball out into the path of a Salzburg player, who quickly plays it out left and a cross into the box finds a wide open attacker for an easy header, 0-1. This is Salzburg's first CL goal.

With Wellenreuther, Feyenoord is once again playing 10 v. 12. upload_2024-11-6_14-53-9.gif

Compared to the match against AZ, Justin Bijlow, Julián Carranza, Ramiz Zerrouki and Thomas Beelen disappeared from the team against RedBull Salzburg. As Givairo Read wasnot put on the CL players list, just recovered Lotomba was going to be the RB.
