It is expected that Nottingham Forest will come up with a new offer for Santiago Gimenez 'today, tomorrow or this week'. For the time being, the striker prefers to stay at Feyenoord. This is reported by Voetbal International. According to Voetbal International, Gimenez is still leaning towards the scenario to help Feyenoord in the battle for the title and direct qualification for the Champions League on Tuesday morning. The striker can reportedly earn three to four million euros at Nottingham Forest, but a longer stay at De Kuip is preferred for the time being. It is expected that Forest will come up with a second offer on Tuesday, Wednesday or at least this week after an offer of 25 million euros. Feyenoord are hoping to break Mats Wieffer's transfer record in the event of a sale of Gimenez. At the moment, club and player don't want to. Voetbal International states that both parties are taking a gamble with that.
Goals in the Champions League will determine Gimenez's market value if he stays at Feyenoord. That can be good and bad.

Moreover, if Gimenez stays longer, the Rotterdammers have 'something to explain' to Ayase Ueda. The Japanese player didn't come to Feyenoord to sit on the bench for two seasons. Moreover, Feyenoord cannot afford not to let play a purchase of nine million euros, let alone score. Gimenez still has a contract with Feyenoord until mid-2027. In 89 matches for the Rotterdammers, he scored 53 times. The Mexican international also provided thirteen assists.

Well the most current report or rumor is that Nottingham Forest is more interested in Arsenal's Eddie Nketiah.

IMHO, one good full season with Feyenoord and Champions League would raise Gimenez's value even higher to attract offers from Italy and Spain. Nottingham? Dull and wet.

Gimenez had one good second half to the 22-23 season; and one good first half to the 23-24 season; plus he was suspended from the first CL matches last season.

As for Ueda; did you see him bumping sides with an assistant trainer on Sunday, right before being subbed in? I saw that and thought "They're trying to toughen him up so that he isn't so easily bumped off the ball." Sure enough, 1908 caught that also.

    https://1908.nl/artikelen/warming-u...denk-je-alles-wel-een-beetje-gezien-te-hebben

For sure Ueda didn't come to Rotterdam to sit on the bench, but he has proven himself to be a light weight and not capable of holding up the ball until team mates get into position.

Well, Santi has declined to move to Nottingham Forest, who's latest bid today was 30 million (26 upfront and 4 variable).

Sparta and Feyenoord will face each other on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. for an old-fashioned Rotterdam city derby, the only city derby in the Eredivisie in the Netherlands.
Sparta Rotterdam - Feyenoord (preview 25 Aug 2024)
Mutual confrontations between Sparta and Feyenoord

Sparta and Feyenoord faced each other 152 times in an official game. On March 18, 1923, the teams played against each other for the first time (excluding friendly matches). At the time, Sparta won 1-0 in the First Division at Het Kasteel thanks to a goal by Jaap van der Mark. This Rotterdam derby is on the menu in the Eredivisie for the 116th time. The Pride of South won 71 times, the "Spangenaren" 18 times and there were 26 draws.

    Mathias Pogba
Sparta haven't won any of their last 12 city derbies against Feyenoord (W0-D3-L9, all competitions) since a 1-0 Eredivisie win on 5 March 2017 at Het Kasteel. Mathias Pogba sent Het Kasteel into ecstasy after just 47 seconds.

    Santiago Gimenez
Last season, this exact Eredivisie event ended in a 2-2 draw. After 2 goals from Charles-Andreas Brym (40\', 54\'), Feyenoord rescued a point on August 2, 2023 through Santiago Gimenez (77\') and debuting Leo Sauer (90+1\'). On February 11, 2024, Feyenoord took the 3 points against Sparta in De Kuip: 2-0 thanks to goals from Dávid Hancko (57' penalty) and Lutsharel Geertruida (63').

    Sparta Rotterdam statistics
Sparta started an Eredivisie campaign for the first time since 1992/1993 with two draws: 0-0 at home against Heracles and 1-1 at FC Twente-Sparta. The 1992/1993 season is also the only Eredivisie season where Sparta started with 3 draws. At the time, it was 0-0 against RKC (home), Cambuur (away) and Ajax (home). The only Eredivisie seasons in which Sparta failed to score in its first 2 games at Het Kasteel were 1992/1993 (first 3) and 1968/1969 (first 2). Tobias Lauritsen Sparta hit the post 2 times (via Tobias Lauritsen) and once the crossbar (via Mohamed Nassoh) in the away match against FC Twente (1-1). The home team hit the crossbar once (through Carel Eiting). Sparta conceded exactly 2 goals in all 4 city derbies in the Eredivisie last season: against Feyenoord (2-2 at home and 2-0 away) and Excelsior (4-2 at home and 2-1 away).

    Tobias Lauritsen
Sparta hit the post twice (via Tobias Lauritsen) and once (via Mohamed Nassoh) in the away match against FC Twente (1-1) last round (via Mohamed Nassoh). Tobias Lauritsen is on 25 Eredivisie goals for Sparta, one less than Louis van Gaal, Juul Ellerman and Dennis Krijgsman. Five Norwegians scored more than 25 goals in the Eredivisie: Hallvar Thoresen (152), Harald Berg (47), Erik Nevland (43), Bjørn Johnsen (28) and Markus Henriksen (26). Jonathan de Guzman made his professional football debut for Feyenoord in September 2005. After 130 games and 26 goals (all competitions), he left for RCD Mallorca in the summer of 2010. · Mike Kleijn made the switch from Varkenoord to Het Kasteel this summer. Kleijn is still waiting for his
    debut in professional football.

    Jeroen Rijsdijk
Jeroen Rijsdijk can become the first Rotterdam-born player to beat Feyenoord as Sparta coach in professional football. Rijsdijk (W0-G1-V1) hopes to do what Pim Visser, Leo Steegman, Rob Baan, Rob Jacobs and Jan Everse failed to do in 19 attempts (W0-D10-L9, all competitions).
On 3 November 1954, Toon van den Enden was the last Rotterdam Sparta coach to beat Feyenoord: a 5-2 home win in the 1st Division - district West I.

    Feyenoord statistics
With a 1-5 win at PEC Zwolle-Feyenoord, Feyenoord recovered from the 1-1 draw against Willem II in round 1 of this Eredivisie season. Feyenoord is ahead of last season's schedule, as they started with 2 draws. In round 3, Almere City was defeated 6-1. Feyenoord are unbeaten in 29 matches in a row in all competitions (W21-D8-L0), since a 2-1 defeat at Celtic in the Champions League on December 13, 2023. It is the second longest streak in professional football for Feyenoord, after a run of 43 matches under Václav Jezek between October 1978 and November 1979. Note: matches decided on penalties count as draws.

Feyenoord are unbeaten in the Eredivisie (W17-S5-L0) for 22 matches, since a 1-2 defeat to PSV on December 3, 2023. Feyenoord have won 10 of their last 11 Eredivisie city derbies, with the exception of a 2-2 draw at Sparta in August 2023. Feyenoord's last Eredivisie defeat in a city derby dates back to 3 February 2019: 2-1 at Excelsior.

    Graziano Pellè
Santiago Gimenez has scored 53 times in 89 official matches for Feyenoord Rotterdam. Players he has in his sights include Ruud Geels (54), Graziano Pellè (55), Gaston Taument (55) and Mario Been (56).
Only Willem van Hanegem (16), Cor van der Gijp (10) and Simon Tahamata (9) scored more Eredivisie goals for Feyenoord in city derbies than Gimenez (8 in 6 games).

    Calvin Stengs
Calvin Stengs was directly involved in at least 3 goals in an Eredivisie game (1 goal, 2 assists) for the first time last weekend against PEC. Timon Wellenreuther Timon Wellenreuther still hasn't lost an Eredivisie game in the shirt of Feyenoord (W25-D5-L0).

The last 6 head coaches of Feyenoord remained unbeaten in their first city derby in the Eredivisie (W4-G2-V0), since Mario Been and his team went down 2-1 at Sparta in October 2009.

  6. Expected line up of both teams:
    Verwachte opstelling Feyenoord (4-3-3):
Wellenreuther; Geertruida, Beelen, Hancko, Bueno; Milambo, Zerrouki, Timber; Stengs, Gimenez, Paixão.

Verwachte opstelling Sparta Rotterdam (4-3-3): Olij; Reith, Quintero, Eerdhuijzen, Van der Kust; Baas, Verschueren, Clement; Neghli, Lauritsen, Nassoh.

I’m not a big fan of Bijlow but what is Priske thinking about watching Wellenreuther?
Also the Japanese Ueda is pretty useless every time I watch him.

Wellenreuther was a good sub goalie for the periods when Bijlow was injured; however, as a starter this season he has made some very bad positional decisions.

As for Ueda; yeah, he is a lightweight and gets easily bumped off the ball and onto the pitch. I wish Priske would give this Carranza a chance to sub in for Gimenez, who still might leave before end of window.

Wellenreuther and Zerrouki at fault for poor decisions this match. Wellenreuther came well out of the box to head ball away and collide with Sparta player so that he was out of position when another Sparta player sent in a long shot from 60m.

Zerrouki with a pair of poor tackles got himself sent off. Never mind; both Nadje and Kasanwirjo did well in sub roles, perhaps one of those will start next match since Zerrouki sits.

Santiago Gimenez is heading off to play for Nottingham Forest in this season's EPL relegation round. He brings €33m + 2m in possible bonus money and 15% sell on.

So, Feyenoord face Ajax next Sunday with light weight Ueda up front, and Zerrouki in the stands. I predict an Ajax win in De Kuip. They have played several UEFA matches and are probably more settled as a squad than Feyenoord at this point.

So the Feyenoord-Ajax match will be rescheduled according to news report. Hopefully Feyenoord can have a settled side by the time that occurs. This flailing around in the final transfer window week is pretty ridiculous. Giving up your star striker for a lightweight backup doesn't bode well for the league or CL seasons.

Another puzzlement is that the Feyenoord youth system raises up promising goalkeepers, defenders, and midfielders, but seemingly few strikers. Strikers have to be brought in from elsewhere which means they compete with the Richie Riches for any quality. For example, Real Madrid are now trying to get River Plate to release a 17 yo from the RP system for cheap. That is the sad reality of the modern system.

Giminez is not leaving as far as I know. The lack of strikers in your academy is not unusual. Other than Brobbey, what other Dutch academy has produced a striker in recent years? I'm not counting players such as Zirkzee who left as a 16 year old.

Well as of two hours ago, I guess he has now rejected Nottingham's improved salary offer to him. Apparently his father is also there in the Netherlands assisting with his negotiations. But as of five hours ago, it was still uncertain.

The lack of strikers seems to be shared across Eredivisie squads. There don't seem to be future Marco van Bastens, Denis Bergkamps, Robin van Persies, Dirk Kuyts, Huntelaars, and etc. anymore. The few that came up through Feyenoord system since I started following in 1996 have mostly have ranged from "average" to "flop". Only van Persie has excelled. But Dylan Vente, Castaignos, and Mitchell te Vrede never amounted to much.

Pretty much the same at Ajax. I wonder if Emre Unuvar can break through. He has quick feet and is scoring scads of goals and is still only 16 years old.

He often played out of control picking up needless YCs.. It may be that Farioli did not think he was coachable. Vos did say he would go back to Jong Ajax and fight for a position. Ajax does need to sell players and Milan came in with a reasonable offer. He's going to play for the futures team (U-23) and not the main squad. I thought he had a good future ahead but we'll see how he does. Ajax have a couple of players in the youth system who play at #6 who might be better prospects.
