Feyenoord opens the 2024/2025 season on Saturday at 16:30 with a home game against Willem II.
Feyenoord played no less than 109 matches against Willem II in its history. Of those, Feyenoord won 71 (65.1%) and lost 21 (19.3%). 17 (15.6%) duels ended in a draw.
This was also the match when both teams played their first Eredivisie match on September the 2nd 1956 in Tilburg: 3-3.
Feyenoord Rotterdam have won each of their last 6 Eredivisie games against Willem II (goal difference 18-1).
The only Tilburg goal was scored by Vangelis Pavlidis (October 2020, 1-4).
Feyenoord's winning streak over Willem II started after a 2-3 home defeat on 16 March 2019. Alexander Isak (69\') scored the winner for the visitors.
    Unbeaten streak in Eredivisie Feyenoord
Feyenoord remained unbeaten in their last 20 Eredivisie matches (W16-G4-V0), after that loss (1-2 against PSV on December 3, 2023) to PSV. Feyenoord have won the last 6 games in this list.
Feyenoord never won the title in the season they won the Johan Cruijff Shield!!
Feyenoord won the Johan Cruijff Shield 4 times before, but in the Eredivisie season that followed, they never won the national title (1991/1992, 1998/1999, 2017/2018 and 2018/2019).
Feyenoord started only 1 of the last 10 Eredivisie seasons with a defeat (W7-G2-V1): 2-0 at De Graafschap in 2018/2019. De Graafschap was a PhD candidate at the time. Feyenoord dropped points in their first 2 Eredivisie games last season: 0-0 against Fortuna Sittard (home) and 2-2 against Sparta (away). In round 3, Almere City was swept aside 6-1.
Feyenoord have lost only 1 of the 29 opening matches at home
Feyenoord have started the Eredivisie season 29 times before with a home game at De Kuip.
Only 1 of the 29 matches was lost (W23-G5-V1): 0-1 against Sparta in 1959/1960.

Captain Lutsharel Geertruida (199) can play his 200th game for Feyenoord in all competitions.

    Santiago Gimenez
Santiago Gimenez was Feyenoord's top scorer in the league last season with 23 goals. The Mexican scored 19 of those goals in the first half of the season (up to and including matchday 17). Santiago Gimenez did not score in the first round last season (0-0 against Fortuna), but then in rounds 2 to 9 (13 goals).

    Timon Wellenreuther
Feyenoord did not lose any of the 28 Eredivisie matches in which goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther (28) was in action.
The Rotterdammers are also unbeaten in all 20 Eredivisie matches with Thomas Beelen on the pitch.
Timon Wellenreuther played 100 Eredivisie matches for Willem II (2017-2021)

Bart Nieuwkoop Bart Nieuwkoop was loaned out by Feyenoord to the Tilburg team in the 2019/2020 season (17 Eredivisie matches, 0 goals).

Brian Priske first foreign coach at Feyenoord since Gunder Bengtsson
Brian Priske is the first foreign coach at Feyenoord since the Swede Gunder Bengtsson (December 1989 - March 1991). Bengtsson was sacked after a 6–0 defeat at PSV in the Eredivisie (3 March 1991).
Priske immediately won a prize on his official debut. Since the introduction of the Eredivisie, one Feyenoord coach had managed to do so: Hans Dorjee in the 1991 Supercup.

Priske is the 5th Danish coach in the Eredivisie, after Morten Olsen (Ajax), Jon Dahl Tomasson (Roda JC), Ole Tobiasen (sc Heerenveen) and Michael Silberbauer (FC Utrecht). Only Olsen took the 3 points on his debut (Ajax - Vitesse 5-0 in August 1997).

Six of Feyenoord's last 7 coaches have won their first Eredivisie game for the club, with the exception of Jaap Stam (2-2 at home against Sparta). Arne Slot started his term with a 4-0 win over Willem II (2021/2022).

Referee for Feyenoord-Willem II is Dennis Higler

Feyenoord loans a left-back with Premier League experience: Hugo Bueno joins from Wolverhampton Wanderers

Brian Priske will still be without Gernot Trauner and Quilindschy Hartman at the start of the season at Feyenoord's disposal. But there is also positive news from the Rotterdam infirmary in the run-up to the home game against Willem II.
,,Gernot and Quilindschy are in good hands with the medical staff, but certainly Q still needs time'', Priske said at the press conference.
"I'm happy that Quilindschy was back on the field. He also shared that on Instagram.''
Hartman tore his cruciate ligament in April and still has a long rehabilitation ahead of him.
Priske also had good news to report about injuries.
Gijs Smal and Julián Carranza, who were missing in the battle for the Johan Cruijff Shield, are available against Willem II and can therefore make their debut in the Kuip on Saturday.
Quinten Timber, who was also absent against PSV, can be subbed in.
Feyenoord are going to strengthen themselves with Hugo Bueno. The 21-year-old left back comes over from Wolverhampton Wanderers. He is on loan for one season.
The arrival of Bueno means that coach Brian Priske has four left backs at his disposal.
Summer acquisition Gijs Smal is in the match selection for the first time on Saturday in the match against Willem II. He came over from FC Twente, but has been injured in recent weeks.
There is a chance that Peruvian Marcos López will leave Rotterdam, but he is the only really fit option at the moment.
López also had a starting spot in the match for the Johan Cruijff Shield against PSV.
Quilindschy Hartman is still recovering from a serious knee injury, but is already doing exercises on the field. However, according to Priske, the defender still has a long way to go.
That's why Bueno offers a solution. The Spaniard joined Wolverhampton Wanderers' youth academy in 2019. In the past two seasons, he made no less than 49 appearances, 43 of which were in the Premier League. He was good for one goal and one assist.
Bueno is also a youth international of Spain.

Feyenoord sold Calvin Stengs to the MLS side Charlotte FC. Transfer price is only €8m, which is par for the lower level MLS.

Stengs was one of our few creative players, but he is prone to injury. Hadj Moussa and Lingr can play on that side of the pitch but neither showed me much so far in the leadup matches and against Willem II. Feyenoord need some offense.

I guess I am not surprised since only Arne Slot has gotten Stengs to play at a higher level. When Slot went to Liverpool, but didn't take Calvin with, that perhaps sealed his Euro fate. The level in the MLS is lower; probably halfway between the English Championship and League One. He will be a star there if he can stay healthy.

Without Calvin's creativity I put our title aspirations on hold. He's the one who puts a throughball to attackers behind the defense, or creates chances for himself by dribbling. Letting him go without having a replacement in place is ditching alot of goals and assists we simply can't afford to lose.

It's a shame that his career was halted by the injury problems. I think he was a very dangerous winger while at AZ but then got hurt. It was the same story with Viktor Fischer at Ajax. He was never the same player after the leg injury. Stengs is creative but really not a MF.

The irony is that Facundo Buonanotte chose not to come to Feyenoord because he would have been behind Stengs at that play-making position, so he chose to go to Leicester City for the season. Major bummer.

Feyenoord are now being linked with a one-year loan of Ibrahim Osman from Brighton. Only 19, he is surplus to Brighton's requirements this season, and I don't know if he is a winger or a creative midfielder. We need an Argentinian playmaker.

Interesting transfer, to say the least. I think Stengs has much more to show, given his prime age and productivity last season. Could even challenge a spot in the Dutch NT if the stars align. Playing in MLS is a significant step-down, he will be soon forgotten. Who knows. Maybe he just needs a totally new scenery, and come back after a season or two to pick up where he left off (similar to Vincent Janssen who made a shocking transfer to Mexican league a few years ago).

Green light is on for transfer of the Ghanaian Ibrahim Osman. According to the attached depth chart, he is the direct replacement for Stengs on the right flank.

I'm curious how he's going to step in Calvin's strong points, being capable of passing with precision and thus creating chances for the striker behind the defense.

Good question. I think that we're all curious about who will supply the assists. In 34 league matches last season, Stengs had 13 assists; the next closest was Timber with 9. Over all competitions, Stengs had 18 assists. That will be hard to replace.

What's being reported is that Stengs had an agreement with Feyenoord last season when he left Nice for Rotterdam (and took a pay cut). If Feyenoord were to receive an offer from abroad, he would be allowed to leave. Given that he has had knee problems, perhaps Feyenoord decided it was time to let him go. This gives Priske yet more of a chance to put together his own squad. The fee is supposed to be around €8.7m.

Now there is talk about sending Zechiel out on a loan deal. Take a look at the depth chart. Midfield is starting to look pretty shallow.

Well, okay. So now we have too many attacking players and not enough box-to-box midfielders.

And then there's more to the story. Despite passing a physical in London, Charlotte wanted to renegotiate the transfer fee, downwards of course, for some reason.

I’m not a fan of Stengs, but he had to come to his senses and realize what the hell am I doing, or thinking about?

Pffft! Follow the money. The Muricans tried to renegotiate the terms. Stings, his team and Feyernoord, said go kick rocks, deals off.

Yes, and by forgoing the MLS, Stengs gave up the chance to score 20 goals and assist on 40. Schoolboy league that is.

At Dutch ESPN they really need to hire people not on smoking recreational shit.

'Feyenoord best option for Memphis Depay' Hans Kraaij junior says at ESPN: "Memphis doesn't have a club yet. He's probably still waiting for a big club with a high salary." But Depay can of course also go for another option: "I wouldn't find it very strange if he would choose a top club in the Netherlands, such as Ajax, Feyenoord or PSV. That level is a paradise for strikers and then he can easily score about twenty." Presenter Toine van Peperstraten draws the conclusion that only Feyenoord remains as a destination, because PSV (Memphis' old employer) already has enough attackers and Ajax is grounded in terms of finances. Kraaij: "Yes, but I've said it before and then people say: he's not going to do that. You don't have to have more, if you already have so much. You can also make a good choice in terms of sports if you're already loaded."
Van Peperstraten doesn't think it will be De Kuip: "He's probably waiting for a club that pays well." Kraaij has the last word: "He seems to be busy in Turkey. Financially, you'll be happy there, but I don't think you'll score more than ten goals there."

Apart from the unfounded believe Memphis would be able to score 20 in the Eredivisie, he has proven he is incapable of scoring in high profile matches. Worse he has shown to be a hindrance to execute a flowing attack. He would be a hazard in the way both Feyenoord and PSV play, an obstacle. So why would Feyenoord pay him good money if he can't make a difference in the CL and disrupt the way the team wants to play?

Don't waste your time reading or listening to those pundits. They just are talking a lot of nonsense. They need viewers/readers and don't particularly care how they get them.
