Anyone knows the ref? I just googled and he refed Brasil-Mexico and Algeria-Russia which were ok I guess. Any insight beyond that?

Have seen him before during Champions League matches and I think he is a bit fussy. Not really thrilled with his appointment for this crucial match.
    Would prefer Howard Webb.
I read that the Japanese ref from the opening match is one of 10 referees still in Brazil. I ask simply, how? or why?
Fifa needs to come to their senses and bring the top refs from the top Leagues only.
Is what it is I guess.

He's one of the better match officials in UEFA and much better than Irmatov who we had for the CR match.

I remember him from some CL matches. He is referee that lets the match play along but isn't afraid to draw a yellow card or 2. he gave around 9 yellow cards in the semi finale of the Euro 2012 match Spain - Portugal. There is still some controversy around him as he was the one that send off Nani in the CL knock out match Manchester United - Real madrid, which several people argued wasn't a red. Your assessment overall is correct, he is just an okay ref that doesn't shy away with the cards if things get ugly.

Messi is a skilled maestro. But speaking purely about athleticism, he would give a guy like me a good chance in a footrace.

Stop Messi and Holland wins. I really think it comes down to that alone.

IF we win the whole darn thing...

Then this will be the first ever World Cup team that will be idolized/remembered for its managerial brilliance, rather than its players. At least that's what it feels like: a big portion of the english-speaking press is getting ready to script this out. No matter what Robben does, he will probably be supporting cast in the highlights.

I predict Robben will go on a Maradona-esque solo run in the final, score the winning goal, Holland win the cup and Robben will be immortalized with the greats like Pele, Zidane and Maradona for eternity

I find it very strange that for the third (fourth even?) consecutive time the opponent is allowed to inspect and train inside the stadium, while Netherlands isn't allowed to train in the match stadium.
