After seeing Ruud Van Nistleroy's outstanding performance against Madrid. I am very optimistic about the Dutch team's attacking potential. However, I admit to not knowing too much about the team and their chemistry recently. What are the Dutch team's weaknesses and their strengths. I like their forwards, RVN, Kluivert, Makaay, and Van Hoodjink, and their mids Davids and Seedorf. But does Overmars play internationally anymore? Who is the attacking mid (s)? The defenders? Staam and DeBoer and who else? What do you think are the Euro chances. I would appreciate any feedback.
The Dutch could become another France, miss the last world cup and win the next one... Overmars still plays internationally I believe, and the attacking mid of the future Van d. Vaart of Ajax is going to set the world ablaze...
regular starters are the following i believe Van Der Sar (when healthy) Ricksen...Stam...F.de Boer....GvB Seedorf...v Bommel...vd Vaart...Davids Kluivert....v Nistelrooij Zenden recently lost out the left back spot to Giovanni van Bronckhost. vd Vaart just recently became a starter yet I cannot remember who he replaced. Andy vd Meyde is becoming more of a regular but I believe he missed recent games due to injury. Cocu and Seedorf are currently out with injury, as is Van Der Sar I believe, but his back up Waterreus is pretty damn good. Key subs are Roy Makaay, Jimmy Floyd (Jerrel) Hasselbaink, Zenden, and Reiziger. Overmars is not retired from international football, I have no idea why he has not been called up, as he has been playing very good football.
van der meyde is probably not far from grabbing a starting spot on the right wing - id prefer reiziger to ricksen - VDV is basically relacing cocu, but philip was always more of a 2-way MF - and as always, i will expect them to triumph when euro2004 rolls around - all the oranje ever seem to need is that little break that winners inevitably get (see euro2000 v. italy - im STILL hurting over that one)
i am not saying you are wrong about vd Meyde, but imo there is no one out there who deserves the right wing more than Overmars. My choice of midfield would be: Seedorf...vd Vaart...Davids...Overmars and not that i think about it they could play Seedorf in a free role (which he pretty much already does) or he and Overmars could switch spots as they are good on both wings. Davids could play anywhere on the center or on the left and im sure Rafael could hold himself at all of those positions except maybe right wing (not sure about his right foot). I dont see how anyone could argue a better mid, forget van Bommel for that extra defense. And I agree with Reiziger over Ricksen, althought Ricksen can hold his own.
Good pick of teams, only thing Oranje needs is lucky bounces and breaks every team gets except for Oranje,for example, Brasil in USA94 and Italia in Euro2000.
vd Vaart is not starter under Advocaat, he started in the last match only because v Bronckhorst was injured..which meant Zenden (I know, why does he still get to play?) had to go back to the defense, and vdv took Zenden's spot. So, v Bronckhorst was replacing Cocu (Bronckhorst takes Zenden's Lb spot, Zenden takes Davids' Lm spot, Davids took Cocu's mid-centre spot)
thanks for clearing that up Oscar, i knew i was messing something up. j/w how do you feel about overmars? i used to disagree with you about zenden but now i am thinking he must be great at giving bolw jobs or something. not to say he has been terrible as of late, but there are just better ppl to put it.
