I agree, and because Nery doesn't have the support from the Mexican media....Chepo doesn't have to worry about the media being all over him to cap Nery.

 

Probably, but theres always a chance. And if he starts doing very good again Chepo will have no choice but to call him up.

 

The media loves controversial figures. If Nery starts scoring like crazy, questions about him will be asked for sure. Individual reporters might not like him, but he sells when he's doing well. At the end of the day, Chepo seems like a straight up dude.

Good for Nery, it's fun to poke at him when he's doing bad (we are Mexican after all) but every time he gets into these streaks you start wondering what would happen if he could back into the form he was in five years ago.

 

I think we would all embrace the idea of him playing for the NT should he return to this. However, I think his attitude has to have changed since then.

 

I think if he continues doing well and the press call for him to be called, Chepo will call him. The player Chepo won't call even if he starts playing well is Vela.

This is the perfect time to call up Nery (the feb 29 game). It is called getting ahead of the story.

Since there is nothing going on right now (in regard to qualifiers, Gold Cup, etc), avoid the shitstorm later when he calls him up for the summer's qualifiers. This way, Chepo calls up a guy who is in fine form (thus, avoiding criticism), and Nery can deflect all the past BS by saying he is humbled and thankful for the nod after all he has gone through.
