Turn a massive negative into a net positive in one move. A smart owner would consider his investment in the dumb rebrand the price for this positive goodwill.
Nelson Rodriguez STILL has a job? Nelson Rodriguez STILL has a job! Nelson Rodriguez STILL has a job?!?
Actually if they keep Nelson only on the business side and not the soccer side oops I mean football side, I'm fine with that.
I've long held that that photo shoot was the sole reason for the US's best modern world cup performance and you can't convince me otherwise.
Oh, please, no. No, no, no. Not Shep Messing. Please no more porn of Shep Messing. Edit: Damn you, PDave. Now that shows up on the cover of the thread. Damn you to hell![emoji107]
Now that they have a guy to sign players they should be one step closer to firing Nelson. Hiring a guy to do 80% of what Nelson's job was means Nelson can be replaced by someone who is paid considerably less. Nelson also will likely want to oversee the new Director and probably micromanage and sabotage him out of jealousy and insecurities. I guarantee giving up the most important aspect of his job wasnt his idea, that was Mansueto. Now his job is basically communications and operations where he will just get in the way and make it harder for everyone else to do their job. A new President should be a guy who lets others do their job, communicates the teams goals to fans and press and pilots this rebrand. Nelson is doing a shitty job of all of the above. Nelson needs to be fired and replaced with someone who the fans will embrace and can succeed where Nelson has failed. The obvious candidate is Mike Ernst. Mike has been able to be both loyal to ownership while maintaining his good standing with supporters. Mansueto needs a guy he can trust, that knows the league and knows how to bridge the gap between FO and supporters without throwing either side under the bus. Mike is a great communicator and has been around long enough and has proven he can handle more responsibility. That shit rebrand wouldve never happened had he been in charge. If I were the owner, I would fire Nelson and hire Mike Ernst and let him create the culture this club needs.
With the recent hires hopefully we won’t have to hear or see from him again. I’ve had enough of his press conferences where it’s nothing but hot air and meaningless platitudes.
Dropping almost to page three? Not on my watch! Agreed, one would have try really, really hard to be that awful at running soccer teams. How does he possibly still have a job? Here is Nelson 'shady' Rodriguez' lifetime record running soccer teams: W-T-L New York Metrostars (n/k/a RedBulls) 15-0-17 7-0-25 (shootout era, and these includes the inflation for 3 "shoot out wins in each of 1998 and 1999 (4 and 5 losses, respectively). Chivas USA (n/k/a Dead Parrot, This team is no more! It has ceased to be! It's expired and gone to meet its maker! It's a stiff! Bereft of life, it rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed it to the perch it'd be pushing up the daisies! Its metabolic processes are now history! It's off the twig! It's kicked the bucket, it's shuffled off its mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisible!! THIS IS AN EX-TEAM!!-Thanks to Nelson Rodriguez) 9-6-19 Chicago Fire (n/k/a Chicago Fire FC...dammit) 7–10-17 16-7-11 8–8-18 10–12–12 Overall: 15-0-17 7-0-25 9-6-19 7–10-17 16-7-11 8–8-18 10–12–12 72-43-119 1.10 ppg for his career 259 point out of a total of 702 ONE winning season, out of seven. TWO "wooden spoons" (1998, 2016) This is failure on an almost intentional level.
Page 3?!? Blasphemy! Well, at least not Page 3 in the Sun. I really don't want to see a topless Nelson Rodriguez in some cheesy pose.
