Argentine MF Nelson Gonzalez has reportedly signed a loan+option contract with RSL. (Gonzalez = above left) Link: here Reference to Gonzalez in River Plate system: here ... Age: 21 EDIT: recently with Quilmes (link). Here is a link to a Quilmes forum which contains posts today that confirm Gonzalez's move ("A prestamo y con opcion") to USA
So the English speaking player Garth said we were signing - is it the Dutchman, the Brazilian, or the Argentine?
It was more tongue in cheek than anything else. So - 21 years old, and we have him on loan for $20,000 with an option to buy at the end of the year? The "about" link RSLFM provided shows him with River Plate - presumably on a reserve team since he has no stats for the 08 season - while the short blurb mentions Mar del Plata.
Well, having absolutely no idea who Gonzales, nor an expectation that he is expected to contribute this year, but happy to be hopeful for future development - I'd conclude that this is a signing from a couple of guys (okay, one guy: Garson) who expect to be around for the coming years regardless of how this season plays out.
This was the post I was thinking of... Now I assume ReK speaks English fluently, and we know Campos does. This Gonzalez chap I would presume speaks better English than I speak Spanish. I don't believe RSL gives a rodent's patootie if a player speaks English or not, if they help get a W. Sorry not racist, Xenoglossophobic.
this should be interesting... hope the guy turns out to be like Will Johnson. By that I mean a young guy that we get for a steal
This is obviously more evidence that Lagerwey and Kreis aren't doing anything to make the team better, not doing any scouting, and are otherwise completely useless as a braintrust for the team... at least, that's what some folks say.
LOL! I just love how people take so seriously every word out of his mouth when he is playing all his cards very close to his vest. The English speaking thing was taken from everything as evidence the team (or Garth) was racist, to the team had a deficiency in multilingual staff, to lack of broad vision for finding quality players... when it really was only distraction or filler for the interview. Every day I find that Lagerwey is a skilled GM. LOL!
You put a lot of faith in Garth. IMO, that is cool; I think Garth has done a reasonably good job. But... the proof is in the pudding.
He's going to need a custom-made jersey. The smallest I could find in the team store was an 18 months jersey.
It wasn't just filler for the interview. In context (I heard the interview) he was saying that the non-English speaking players that RSL has signed in the past have contributed more after they have been here a while and could communicate better. In that regard, RSL's strategy for bringing in players who could make an immediate impact was to sign 2 players who speak English. They did that El Kalifi and Pablo. This 3rd signing, if true, was not within the context of his statement.
The latest seems to suggest *next season*. Although the author's wording is somewhat vague (also suggesting he already left camp).
so we got Yura'd with this guy? Buy him now, present him now, but dont get him til next season? You would think we would watch our own transactions and learn from them...
