Like I said earlier, Nellie was pointing out to United management the $ign Nelsen sign and Gaven's face just got in the way. This fine is a joke.

i wonder if they'll fine the boob who who spun freddy to the ground on gomez's goal...

They're gonna open up a whole can of worms if they start using video to go back and fine for stuff like this. every corner kick someones going to get fined for a pull/push/slap/kick.

i actually dont mind it as long as they are consistent with it.... but seeing as how this is MLS, i dont see that happening, so therefore i am against it

Don't see it happening? It already didn't. What about (as others pointed out) Pope, Clarke (I believe he is the one that pulled Freddy down on the goal), and that sh!t Guvara <sp> for trying to play keeper on Petke's goal?

Personally if I was Nelsen at this point, that would have been the last straw and i'd stop negotiations with MLS. Yeah it's only $100, but the idea that they are going to arbitrarily enforce rules and fines post match is ludicrous. For egregious stuff, that's one thing, but for little stuff like this ...

Or maybe he'll go out and "earn" his fine tomorrow :D

Actually, I think Clark should be fined for cleaning Walker's clock! :D

What burns me the most is it wasn't even close to an intentional foul, in my opinion, but no worse than what usuallly happens on any dead ball situation around the box. Are they going to start giving out cards and fines for every time some poor guy takes a finger in the eye by accident??

What a joke. MLS brings the game into disrepute more often than most of the players ever do. Unfortunately, the league is fined every week in the form empty seats.

Grrr, rant off. Happy supporter again.

No, he need an award (at least then the season won't have been a complete waste for them) :D

Maybe Eddie was pointing out the "How many trophies..." sign to Moreno so they could reminisce

Well, they probably didn't know about it until some dope pointed it out on Bigsoccer, since they lurk. ;)

Kidding about the dope part, but I'm pretty sure that's how MLS figured it out :D

No, I think they figured it out from a complaint from the Metros. Terry and the AR got together to talk abouot it so they knew something happened.

I haven't seen the video, but the amount of whining here is staggering. They have gone back and fined a bunch of players here. Life moves on.

Reviewing game film, I assume is a regular practice for MLS and for other leagues as well. And penalizing players based on a film review is also standard practice in various leagues. Nothing to complain about there

Nonetheless, if the league was reviewing the game film and handing out additional penalties, my recommendation would be Ziadie's "tackle" on Freddy -- surely in need of a greater penalty than a yellow card. Guevara's take down of Carroll and the "tackle" on Freddy preceding one of the goals also deserve serious consideration for additional punishment. When Kevin Terry is the official, there are always occasions for a sterner approach to applying the laws of the game!

Unsportsman as it may be I'd gladly toss in 100 bucks for another one of those shots at Gaven. But hey! That's me!

I don't think there is any true whining going on. I think everyone would agree that if it was indeed an un-sportsman like act, then the fine is deserved. I think everyones issue is that since they obviously took the time to review the tape of the game, where are the fines for similar or worse acts. As with any officiating of any rule in MLS, it's not that we got "screwed" it's that they aren't being consistent or equal in their "screwing".

I'm with Pints, I think we should all give him a couple of bucks when he comes over on the 30th after the game :D

Is there some page on MLS's website (or elsewhere?) that posts this type of info? Perhaps (and I'm being generous here) they did the right thing and handed out fines to ALL of the appropriate parties and Soccernet just happened to post Nellie's fine only...

on another slight variation of the topic at hand... I've never agreed with having set dollar amounts on fines. A player on a making minimum salary (i.e. perkins earlier this season) would really feel a $100 fine. However player making max salary would just laugh at the $100. I've always been in favor of a percentage of ur salary for fines....
