Eurosnobs = Football fans from US and Canada who only follow and care European football. They either ignore or look down on MLS.

Europeans who only follow European football, and think MLS is lower level football are not Eurosnobs. They are just being Europeans.

MLSsnobs = MLS fans who only follow and care MLS, they ignore European football which is obviously top level football.

Personally I think both Eurosnobs and MLSsnobs are not true football fans.
I follow both. I follow MLS because it's my league and my team. I follow European football because they currently got the top level football.

I guess I'm a MLSsnob. I follow my Wizards and MLS. I don't really have any interest in any other league. I watched the occasional EPL game when I had FSC but never got "hooked" on it.
I guess I'm not a true football fan.

Well, I guess that's the definition as I understand it.

Personally, I think it's sad and evidence of a closed mind in a similar way that there are people in my country who dismiss MLS on the grounds of half remembered has beens wearing sambas on astroturf thirty years ago. Tho obviously there was some quality played in the NASL too.

Don't forget those who believe that MLS does not have enough flair compared to South American leagues.

    I call them Surosnobs.

mix that in with the inferred "we're going to make that dull sport of yours exciting with American rules and razzmatazz" and it's not difficult to see why the NASL was regarded as the bearded lady of soccer - a fascinating curiosity, but damn ugly at the same time.

For older generations, the conception of MLS all those years ago, with "interesting" kit designs and a sprinkling of concessions to the way American sports work, clearly triggered a "not this crap again!" sentiment and they've never bother checking back.

I'm interested in watching European football; I'm just not that particularly interested in following it. An individual game can be exciting to watch, but I don't find the annual saga of "Which of the same 2 or 3 teams will win the championship this time" to be that compelling. (And I find relegation battles depressing.)

Europe -- excellent football, boring season
MLS -- mediocre-to-good soccer, gripping season

Why two different definitions? I don't look down on European soccer, but I'm not going to follow any team that I can't see on a regular basis or have ties to.

it's funny you say that, given the fact that DC United's legacy was built around latino players.

In your defense, you must have no sense of humor.

Euro, Suro, Burro all rhyme. As in perhaps people that feel soccer should only be played by cows are Rur-osnobs.

OK, that's a stretch but this should make his little joke clearer.

And people who think that soccer should only be played by Expressionist painters are called Chiaroscuro-snobs.

I only watch soccer played by samurai. Does that make me a Kurosnob?

(Do you support your local, or no? N = snob. Glad I could clear that up for you.)

(EDIT - I'm only slightly ashamed to realize I have pointlessly bumped a week-dead thread.)

    what a tired topic.

why should i give a crap about clubs that I have no tie to? in countries I don't live in?

this is my league and (the revs are) my team.

if you lived in england would you be asking about ELP snobs?

this is a unique problem to MLS and actually is one of the more unfortunate problems of MLS: that is isn't good enough for far too many people.

Unless you are right off the boat you should be rooting for your home side and your home league. everything else should be a side show. Eurosnobs are just too cool for school a-holes in my book

I pay attention to the rest of the world, but I don't actually care (possible exception of Porto- which is my wife and her family's club- she is an imigrant and her parents live in porto)...

Your two definitions contradict each other. You say Euro football is obviously top level football, then you say the fans there look down on MLS, if they are on top then of course they look down on others.

I never understood the whole concept behind using the word snob. Serie A fans can care less about the portugese league or MLS but that doesnt make someone a snob. They care about their own league, why do they have to care about others. A snob should be reserved for people who make false assumptions, such as someone thinking they get cut by bristol rovers and can def make a mls team because it is america, or someone who says MLS is a retirement but have never watched a single match.

I dont think the whole support your home club concept really applies in the US... what if you live in CT, do you support NE or NY? or if you are in Delaware, DC or NY? We are not in England where every 20 sq miles has a club. Does it make a difference if you live in South Carolina and want to support ManUtd as opposed to DCUtd? You are getting both on TV anyways, what difference does it make?

I'm a european born, canadian citizen who follows mostly EPL and Liga but also enjoys going to see Toronto FC when I can get tickets (i love that an MLS team is always sold out though...). I don't watch MLS on TV.

    Am I a eurocanadasnob?
