I've been looking up information about group Ice skating. 70ish people showed up for bowling. If that many people were to show up for ice skating, then it would be better to reserve a rink. If attendance is in the 10-50 person range, then it's best to just crash a public session. In other words, there are options. It's best to do this as early as Wednesday 2-18-09 or as late as Sunday 3-8-09.
The question is, what got so many people to show up for bowling? Bowling, Beer, or Barra Brava? Beer should wait until after skating. Except for Paulie; he skates better drunk.
I think that was more louge. But on how do you get the Barra to come out, I think the key is "beer". "Naked women" would probably be a big draw as well but those events cater to a more select audience.
oh the good memories! I really wish we had that on video! and thystle, yes I do snowboard and wakeboard better when ive been drinking, so im sure ill skate better
I'm trying to pick a date. Are there any other local soccer related events between Friday 2-20 and Sunday 3-1? When is the Pre-season party? Like the one we had at RFDs last year. I'm surprised how cheap it is to rent an ice rink for private group events. The price could easily get down to $10 per person or less if enough people attend.
There's an outdoor ice rink in Reston, right next to Clyde's (which has beer). I think the indoor rink in Ashburn might have beer, it has an Italian restaurant in it. There used to be a chain place next to it with beer, but it closed, there is probably a new bar there now, but I don't know for cetain.
I'm trying to imagine doing some Barra-related without beer. Then I'm trying to imagine all of us drunk, on ice, while wearing sharp metal blades. Look, people, I'm worried that 2009 is going to be a long, trying season, and we just can't afford a rash of pre-season injuries.
it was twice as hilarious for me skating??? im down....beer can always be consumed afterwards.....or before
I'm in...the outdoor one in Crystal City can't hold the Barra. It can only hope to contain us...and it will fail. But fa sho; I think that one is geared more for a place to dump kids while parents shop. I'm happy to be wrong, but if we go and I'm right...well then I will just drink at Sine until it closes....meh Let me know if you need help planning something.
That brought on some flashbacks!!! I didn't know it was still in business!! Thought it would be a hi rise by now.
YES!! Curling!! I know there were a few people interested a while ago. I'd be up for doing one of the Potomac Curling intro lessons.
Curling is an option at Fairfax. I've been making some phone calls. Asking about late February to early March. Renting a rink is the way to go if the group is around 50 people or more.... At Pentagon Row, it's $500 to rent the outdoor ice on Sundays and Thursdays from 7-9pm up to 100 people, $2 extra per addition person. It's a very small rink. Subject to availability. I talked to the manager at Fairfax Ice Arena. He's a DC United fan; he'll reserve us the entire rink for a 1.5 hour block any time from 4pm to 11pm on either Sunday 2-22-09 or 3-1-09 at the normal weekend group rates if we have a minimum of 75 people (give or take). Saturday afternoon on 2-28-09 is also a possibility if we act soon. At Kettler Iceplex (Ballston), it is $335 to rent the rink per hour for up to 300 people ($670 for 2 hours, but still only 300 people). Catering service in a private room is $120 extra through Front Page, or we can coordinate a reservation with the restaurant to move the party afterwards. I'm waiting on a phone call from the GM about times. There are several other rinks, but most of them won't work out for us. There will be another update after I talk to the GM at Ballston.
