Just what I needed, a good Laugh after last Firday's horrable game : . "For the second consecutive season Los Angeles Galaxy President and General Manager Doug Hamilton was selected as the MLS Executive of the Year. Michael Hitchcock, the Galaxy's Vice President of Sales, is also a return winner as the Ticketing Executive of the Year, having first won the honor while leading the Colorado Rapids ticketing department during the 2002 season. The Galaxy ticketing group won the Sales Team of the Year, while account executive Tim Martin was the Ticket Sales Leader of the Year." I guess you get Exec of the year for treating the fans worse than ANY other team in the League, and firing the Coach when the team is in First Place and has been on a down hill slide ever since. Then I guess you get Ticketing Exec for promissing five (5) bonus games and only delivering on three (3), including the MLS Cup. And, especially for "promissing" season ticket holders a bus to San Ho for both games, not coming through on either, and arranging tickets in San Ho in the San Ho Season Ticket Holder's area where LA fans got beaten by San Ho Security and Police; and fans got arrested just for Cheering for our team. Congratulations (NOT!! ) Dougie and Michael.
on the plus side, hamilton fired sigi while the team was in first, maybe lieweke will fire hamilton in his "triumphant" moment. more likely, more depressingly it seems to signal the continuation of the dougie era. well the galaxy can forget about any type of season ticket/game plan from me.
Wow......... I see more and more clearly how much this league is truly all about the money every year. Are we among the only ones that believe that pretty much anybody in his position (beautiful facility and great market) could turn a profit?
I know this is easy for me to say from 3000 miles away, but don't punish the league and the players for the GM's mistakes. If nothing else, you guys shouldn't cede your stadium to Chivas USA fans.
I guess you all kind of forget that earlier in the season you were all telling Doug hamiltom to get rid of Sigi. When he does you complain. Get with it. Michael Hitchcock and Doug Hamilton are people that I have come to know and if you truly knew anything about business you would understand that they did a great job. Remember that afetr all is said and done it is a business. teams win and lose. Deal with it and move on. I am a true galaxy fan and would gladly forgo the bonus game for a shot at the cup. I guess you people in the upper deck have no true understanding on what it is to be a fan and have a true love for the game. Move on, you can hate the raiders or rams for awhile.
Speaking only for myself, the whole "Fire Doug!" and "Get rid of the horns!" campaigns have gotten so monotonous that as soon as I see a post about it, I think to myself, "Move along. Nothing to see here." Next year the Galaxy could crush the competition with or without DH. Or they could suck from day one and we miss the playoffs. Parity is a ruthless old gal, but as long as we're striving to improve and have set a difficult standard for ourselves - winning, attractive play - then things will come our way again.
I'll give love to Hamilton when he reliquishes the GM spot. He's not qualified for that job. That simple. Kudos on the exec award, I'm sure it will get more difficult to win as more SSS pop up. My 25th anniversary for hating the Raiders and their season has gone exceptionally well in my book.
Srosenbary, I think the true loyal fans are the fans that give they're 2 cents, and for good or bad, will be back next year. The direction that Hamilton is taking LA, so far does not look good, which is why many fans are bitching about it. You are right, soccer is a business, and if you remember Hamilton's previous job, Miami sucked they're first 2 years, lost they're fan base, and started getting it back when they played attractive and most importantly winning soccer. Hamilton's job is to oversee that the people under him are providing a good product to the paying customers(fans) and that the service is excellent. Well, missed bonus games, poor coordination of fan travel, difficulty buying or trading tickets, all are signs of bad service that happend under his watch. Most importantly, the product that we pay so much of our hard earned dollars for, was not worth what we payed for it. I could keep bitching, but at the end of the day, come next April, whether it's Hamilton, Luce, Del Prado, Villanueve in charge, I'll still be sittin in section 232. Go Galaxy
Rodney you know that those were not promises made to all season ticket holders and buses were never promised to both games. And quit complaining about the tickets, especially after what happened with the one's you requested. What happened in SJ was not anyone's fault but security's. Stop stretching the truth to prove your points. I can agree and question Doug's award, but I've dealt with Michael and I think we need more people like him working for the Galaxy.
I think most of the people on these boards are genuine fans who pay good money to watch a quality product on the field. Doug Hamilton has to make money but the way to do that is to put an entertaining product on the field and he hasn't done that. As paying customers we are fully entitled to voice our opinions when the quality expected is not there. I for one feel this season has been ******** and I don't care if you know Doug Hamilton personally or not I am sure he is a nice guy but quite honestly he does not appear to me to have a clue what he is doing. I would have had no problem with firing Siggy even though it was at a strange time but for christs sake replace him with someone better not Steve Sampson. Lets face it a monkey could be the executive of the year if they had the HDC to operate out of. The lines to get a beer and food are still a joke unless you get there an hour before kick off and miss the last five minutes of the first half. I do not think that keeping your head above water financially is all there is to being a good GM. The ticket guy also does not appear to know what he is doing either. I have four season tickets and last year the bonus games were in the season ticket booklets which made it fairly simple and kept it all in one place. This season I was getting mailed crap every other week for bonus games, crappy college games and faxed copies of bonus game tickets with absolutely no explanation. Put the damn bonus game tickets back in the season ticket booklets and stop calling me every time Mexico, El Salvador or the women are playing as I am not interested. Also the halftime entertainment sucks Dougie. Instead of seeing 50 10 year old kids on the field how about using a little imagination. When I was growing up watching Man Utd they would have police dogs attacking criminals and doing obstacles etc and guys parachuting in at halftime, hell I would rather laugh at a few flying Elvis's landing on the pitch than one more set of AYSO kids. Don't get me wrong I have an 11 year old soccer player and understand you have to show these people love but surely not every week. I will however like the other frustrated fans be back next season to support this team.
The problem with supporting or damning Dougie is that it is not at all clear how much he has to do with the product on the field. The only thing we really know that he did regarding the team is to fire Sigi, a move that the LA Times yesterday described as one of sport's all-time BONEHEAD moves. But, for example, was it Dougie who decided to waste dollars and a roster spot on Bo? Lets assume that one was Dougie, and lets call that the second-most BONEHEADED move the team has made in the last couple of years. But, for example, the draft: I was always under the impression that it was the coach (Sigi) that ran the draft, not the GM. I don't know - and I think no one outside the LAG immediate family knows - whether those draft decisions were made by Dougie or Sigi. Same with trades - its hard to tell who really calls the shots. I sure would like to know which BONEHEAD was resonsible for bringing in Pineda-Chacon, for example. And, on the other hand, everybody credits Sigi for finding Pescadito - but maybe Hamilton had a role in that and just doesn't get the credit. We are used to the US sporting model where the GM assembles the team and the manager coaches the players. When the manager/coach is also responsible for selection of the players (like a Bill Parcells in Dallas) we know it - its made explicit. I'm just not sure that the typical US model fits with the way MLS runs.
I know nothing about business, just good soccer. And that's all I'm judging Hamilton on. Not whether he's a good person (I'm sure he is) or good at making the numbers work. Just whether he makes the right decisions to make the team better. You say that you'd gladly forgo the bonus game for a shot at the cup. I'd gladly forgo our Exec-of-the-Year GM for a shot at the cup. And I'm sure that Doug can handle the criticism. You know what they say, if you can't stand the heat... And if you can, then become a ref.
What the fvck do you mean by "you people in the upper deck"? As oppoosed to you worthless cvnts sitting in corporate seats you didn't pay for yourself. Or maybe the idiots who are guests in those luxury boxes, and don't know shite about the game, but love all the free food. Who are you to tell me what I know about business (I run my own successful one), or about soccer for that matter? I have worked in a pro soccer team's front office. Have you? I've coached the game at a very high level, have you. I have been there since opening day in 1996, and I'll buy my season tickets again next year in spite of those dumb bastards in the front office, because I love the game, and want it to live for the next generation, not die like my NASL Aztecs did. Are you putting your money where your mouth is, because I am. And if you are, great! Just don't tell me what a true fan will and will not do. And for the record, I don't sit in the upper deck a$$hole. Hamilton's job #1 is the product on the field, because without that there is no revenue. People don't drive to Carson for the clean restrooms, beautiful sign boards or overpriced hotdogs. They come for the soccer, and it doesn't take a genius to see that this team had too many playmaking midfielders (Herzog, Kirovski, Grabavoy) and not enough flank players, too few options up front when Ruiz was gone and two head coaches that could neither maximize the roster given them nor get results on the road. Any idiot could draw 22,000 to the HDC and turn a modest profit with raised parking, ticket and concession prices. What exactly did our Executive of the Year do?
