holy sh$%! I thought it said Davis and my heart sunk. But Charlie is just as important to the national team. Hopefully everyone is okay.
Ditto, keep him and everyone involved in your thoughts. Ives: http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_by_ives/2009/10/davies-injured-in-serious-car-accident-in-dc.html There is another link in Ives story that shows a car, not sure if it is his.
The reports are a single vehicle crash where 3 people were involved at 3 o'clock in the morning. The car is reported to have been ripped in two. One person has passed on. Prayers for that family. Boy, ya never are promised another day!
http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/l...-Blocked-in-GW-Parkway-Accident-64073357.html This looks really bad
can anyone pinpoint where exactly it happened-there are a lot references for local folks, but I don't know where any of those landmarks are. Been awhile since I drove around DC
From the Washington Post twitter feed: "Awaiting more details on Charlie Davies. Early indication is broken leg and internal injuries. Team has left hotel for practice at RFK."
our prayers go out to Charlie and the others involved in this crash...special prayers to their families as well...
Stuie is Charlie's roommate when they travel with the team. When I first found out about the wreck and heard someone had died, I had a sinking feeling that Stuie might have been with Charlie (he wasn't.) What a sad situation. My prayers are with all involved, including our team. Video report on ESPN: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=4557122&categoryid=2731137
Awful news. Just awful. I also had a quick think about Holden and said to myself, "I hope Stu wasn't with him."
Completely gutted for Charlie and all involved. His injuries are really serious and while it seems as if there's a chance he can come back from this, it seems far from certain. This whole thing is seriously bumming me out. It's as if I know the people involved even though nothing could be further from the truth.
Yeah, two girls were both Maryland students. And of course its added that Charlie Davies was out after national team curfew and now may miss the world cup. Of course, he wasn't the one that got the worst of it. 8(
A tragedy all around. Not to overstate, but it does sort of put a damper on the final game of the Hex for the U.S. There are several lessons when these things happen, unfortunately it often takes these types of tragedies for them to sink in.
I've been reading the supporters (AO) are planning something special around the 9th minute of the game tomorrow night as a tribute to Charlie.
It's a good thing we qualified saturday, because it's going to be tough for the team to get up for tomorrows game. This really sucks.
A bit mind boggling... A girl loses her life and Charlie gets a tribute? Not bashing anybody and I want him to get better, but for all we know he'll be playing again in 6 months (which is possible for a broken leg).
I don't think there's any may miss about it. Recovery time is 6-12 months with intensive rehab. I get the impression doctors aren't even sure if he can come back although it seems like there's a chance he can. In any case, 6 months would put him at April and then give him a month to earn a spot. That's absolute best case scenario and even then, it seems unlikely.
Do you have any idea how many girls I don't know died today? My heart can't break over every one of them. I think it makes sense that a soccer player who just barely made it out of a horrible accident would receive tribute at a game he would otherwise be playing in.
Sheesh, I don't know why I keep coming back here. Everyone is extremely sad about the girl losing her life and I have read numerous posts with condolences and prayers for her family at their loss. The supporters groups want to help the USA team at a time when they are reeling from what happened to one of their own. Doing something for Charlie during the game doesn't show that beautiful young woman any disrepect. It shows Charlie and the team that the fans are behind them during all this.
Unfortunately celebrities and athletes get more attention and love than regular Janes and Joes, that is something very common in the US and pretty much every other western country. How many people attended M. Jackson´s funeral?, heck, every other year I see a newspaper or TV station showing statistics of how small white girls that are kidnapped or murdered get 5 or 6 times than brown and black little girls. People connect more, or feel an affinity or however you want to call it with certain persons, this is a fact of life, I understand what you are saying but that is how it works. Now, about the playing 6 months, quoting a quote: I don´t think that coming back in 6 months or in a year is a given.
It's really depressing to read his last comments on twitter, talking about making it to the World Cup, and heading to practice in DC, and loving the cool weather. Being constantly in touch sometimes is very sad.
That's your right to hold that feeling no doubt, its a free country. Its my right to be sad that there are people that feel and act like that in this or any country.
