Don't forget to preview Toronto today at 2:30 Central. Hopefully they'll beat Chicago, get that monkey off their backs, become exhausted and way overconfident and not ready to face us in 4 days. As if we need any help. Dallas plays tonight too, but I didn't get DK this year so that's out. Good luck, KC!
Re: Toronto hosts Chicago today on FSC and FSE Hopefully we win too, we've had 2 weeks to practice..the team should look even better today then 2 weeks ago (the KC game looked 400 times better then the previous matches). We're getting better over time and have a decent shot @ beating the fire. Can't wait to see DeRoserio on Wed, you guys are lucky....
Re: Toronto hosts Chicago today on FSC and FSE Porto? Porto? Ok, I'll let it slide. Good luck v. Chicago...or should I say, boa sorte!
Re: Toronto hosts Chicago today on FSC and FSE I'm looking forward to seeing both this game and Wednesday's, I missed the last time TFC was on tv, but Glenn D keeps talking it up, so it must be nice up there. And, hey, good luck against Chicago. Then maybe yall won't be so hungry on Wed night.....
Re: Toronto hosts Chicago today (5/12) on FSC and FSE [R] FYI - US Women's team plays Canada tonight (at 6, I think) from PHP.
Re: Toronto hosts Chicago today (5/12) on FSC and FSE [R] You are Right... I forgot about that. It's on FSC at 6.oo pm. Wonder if Brianna Scurry will be in goal and if Amy Wamback will be this game?? Maybe I will watch it at the Mezz and be there for the TA game already.
Re: Toronto hosts Chicago today (5/12) on FSC and FSE [R] Apparently everyone is healthy so we'll have to wait and see who the starting XI are. The ladies are wearing pink jerseys to promote breast cancer awareness and the game worn jerseys will be auctioned off. Here's the link: http://www.ussoccer.com/articles/viewArticle.jsp_281921.html I'll be watching the game from home because two of my kids are coming home from college (I have 3 attending university - yes, I'm broke) for Mother's Day and my birthday. Have a great time at the Mezz.
Re: Toronto hosts Chicago today (5/12) on FSC and FSE [R] Well we saw two pieces of history today. The first goal by a Canadian team in MLS. And the last time an MLS team tries handing out large frisbee-shaped objects before a game.
Re: Toronto hosts Chicago today (5/12) on FSC and FSE [R] Well Dichio scored and now he's sent off for trying to bite the Fire keeper. Looks like he will miss the game against us and quite a few more.
Re: Toronto hosts Chicago today (5/12) on FSC and FSE [R] Yea, it's tough for them to lose their leading scorer.
Re: Toronto hosts Chicago today (5/12) on FSC and FSE [R] Great crowd in Toronto. This is the way every MLS game should be. It's all about the downtown stadium.
Re: Toronto hosts Chicago today (5/12) on FSC and FSE [R] OMG... Kevin Goldthwaite is now tied for goal leaders in Toronto!!11!!1!!!!!
Re: Toronto hosts Chicago today (5/12) on FSC and FSE [R] Edu makes it 3-1 and Toronto is gonna win their 1st game.
Re: Toronto hosts Chicago today (5/12) on FSC and FSE [R] After watching 70 minutes of the game from Toronto, I have these observatioins: the stadium, though I'm sure is nice and new and has a great view of the downtown, looks like a high school stadium. The far stands don't have anything on top, it's just one really tall bank of stands. One end zone is sort of standing room or picnics or something, the other end is sort of normal, looks very much like our north end. The home stands are capped by a short press box or suites or something, then there are other windowed boxes in the lower section. But again, at least on tv it looks like nothing particularly special at all. the fans are the talk of all the league, but they really look much like Dynamo fans on a good day, especially if you put all of our fans in a 20,000 seat stadium. it looks like they let big flags and banners in different parts of the stadium, at least it looks like it. that really helps the atmosphere I think (though you need to keep them away from people that don't want to be hit by a waving flag ). and it's great to see Kevin G getting a chance to do well, his goal was sweet and he's made some other good plays. I like him and I'll probably miss him more than Moreno... also... Toronto looks very dangerous, even playing with ten men. Of course, they're playing against ten men too.
Re: Toronto hosts Chicago today (5/12) on FSC and FSE [R] ahh the reason for a SSS-I think your comment should read "look much like the Dynamo supporter clubs..." It looked to me that whole stadium was rocking-maybe not standing and jumping up and down- but it was more lively than the Rob-but then again look at our first couple of games-let's see if they have the same atmosphere in year 2. I really want our 22 K stadium now.
Re: Toronto hosts Chicago today (5/12) on FSC and FSE [R] Yea, you're right to some extent, but when we have big crowds (and our big crowds are much bigger than at TFC) we rock too. And we have those silly big ticket seats around the edge of the field where the hoity toity sit, they can't be troubled to cheer. But I think our noise level is equal to theirs. Now switch over to the KC game and compare. Now that's a non-SSS crowd. I feel sort of sorry for them, they're trying, but, really.
Re: Toronto hosts Chicago today (5/12) on FSC and FSE [R] I feel bad for KC too, because their supporter's group looks really enthusiastic given their circumstances. At least they had over 10,000 today, but they need their own stadium and a fanbase boost in the worst way.
Re: Toronto hosts Chicago today (5/12) on FSC and FSE [R] One thing is for sure. If Toronto can keep that atmosphere going then the players will feed off of it and their home field will be a fortress. The home team gets energy with all the chants, which was probably the difference between a 2-1 result and a 3-1 result. You can see the difference when you watch a Crew or Dallas game. There is no atmosphere and the players play like it's a 5 a side scrimmage instead of an actual competitive game.
I liked Goldthwaite too, and am happy to see him getting a chance to play. Having said that, his defense is suspect IMO - I think he'll have a hard time controlling Mullan. Kevin's strength is his ability to go forward offensively and cross the ball. It was nice to see him get the goal, but he was lucky that he had that much time to get the shot off. He showed that he has no confidence in his right foot, as he should have one timed the ball into the goal. Instead he let it roll slowly to his left foot, took one touch, and then got the shot off. In the box, you rarely have that much time to shoot.
Yea, and while I was proud of his play, he did almost give up a penalty and almost let another goal get by, so, yea, his defense is questionable.
I think there's just a different atmosphere between Houston and Toronto. Houston games seem more like South American matches (in terms of fan actions) while Toronto's games seem more European (in my opinion).
