Re: Jaime Trecker is the enemy of USA soccer A few good points about attendance but compare with the lackluster perfromance of the favorite Mexican squad watching USNMT is wonderful.
Re: Jaime Trecker is the enemy of USA soccer I don't have much of an issue with what he wrote. Actually I agree with a good portion of it.
Re: Jaime Trecker is the enemy of USA soccer He just pointed out some obvious truths. Soccer isn't that popular in the US?? No freaking way.....
Re: Jaime Trecker is the enemy of USA soccer I actually thought it was a well written article. I've never read anything else from him, or don't believe I have, so maybe your animosity comes from elsewhere.
Re: Jaime Trecker is the enemy of USA soccer Ok, clue me in, I don't like the guy much either but I don't really see anything wrong with the story. Should I read it again? Am I missing something?
Re: Jaime Trecker is the enemy of USA soccer If the USA would play at Reliant it would be a sell out. But they play at LA or Giants stadium and dont sell out. I dont understand why the USA team avoids Houston?
Re: Jaime Trecker is the enemy of USA soccer I'm with you Rickker (this time ) though I doubt they would sell out...........
Re: Jaime Trecker is the enemy of USA soccer I haven't read this article, but most of his articles have a negative outlook on MLS and are full of factual errors that anybody that bothered to do 5 minutes of research (or actually watched games) would not make. Overall he's just a very poor writer.
Re: Jaime Trecker is the enemy of USA soccer If you did a double header with Dynamos vs DC united Follow by USA vs Argentina or Brazil it would be a sell out!!!!!!!!!
Did I read the same article as ya'll. I thought he was spot on concerning a lot of points. And I don't think he was necessarily dogging on the USMNT's level of play. He was just commenting on what "average fans" were saying.
Re: Jaime Trecker is the enemy of USA soccer its probably cause the US team wants to have some sort of "home field advantage" when they play in the us of a. with the previous game played in Houston, most of the crowd was pro-visitor...which doesnt look good to the decision makers in USSF.
Re: Jaime Trecker is the enemy of USA soccer If the US plays anywhere outside of Columbus they will lack home field advantage. And for friendlies they really don't care about that, they care about the money they bring in.
Re: Jaime Trecker is the enemy of USA soccer How many previous games have there been? I only remember the Mex/USA game, that was a surprisingly even crowd, well probably not 50/50, but closer than most people probably expected.
For Trecker that was actually a reasonable article. In case you missed the first point, he was saying that fans of the U.S. have increased their expectations. That's good. I might disagree that the U.S. is not the class of this tournament so far but it is hard to tell if that's Trecker's opinion or if he is relaying fan's comments. The second part, about attendance, is hard to argue with. Mexico draws better crowds, in general, in the U.S. than the U.S. does. I'll agree that part of that is venue selection because the U.S. tends to play in places that don't have a lot of general soccer fans. Mostly because many of those fans are going to root for the Latin teams that the U.S. is playing.
Re: Jaime Trecker is the enemy of USA soccer your right brahma. thought there was at least one other. fixed my post. thanks.
Re: Jaime Trecker is the enemy of USA soccer Well I think they played here a few other times, but those were years ago, I know I didn't go back then. On a somewhat related topic, the thing that makes me mad about the Mexican NT, though it's in no way their fault, is how many companies here sponsor them, you see them on Doritos bags, on the sides of beer trucks, doing commercials on tv, everywhere. But the US team gets no exposure, and it's their country. I can understand it, and it goes hand in hand with the crowds at their games, but it really makes me mad sometimes. I think if they had better sponsorships, if their pictures were on cereal boxes or on the sides of trucks, their fan base and popularity would escalate.
Re: Jaime Trecker is the enemy of USA soccer I've wondered that same thing and I don't get it either.
Re: Jaime Trecker is the enemy of USA soccer [q]Two easy goals — and finally, one from Eddie Johnson — were not enough. The Americans still look shaky, still look unsettled, and don't look like the class of the region. The Americans can't close out opponents, don't convert their chances, and don't overwhelm a clearly outmatched team.[q] That is one point that bothers me. USA has been the best team in the tournament. No one have score on them so far but "The Americans can't close out opponents" Mauybe he is confusing USMNT with the mexican team. Did any of you watched yesterday's game. Panama was the better team on the pitch. Even when they were two men down. I think USMNT deserves some credit. Jaime should not say Fans want this and Fans want that when it is obvious that he is the one who wants this or that. I am very please with my team and this is our Gold Cup to loose.
Re: Jaime Trecker is the enemy of USA soccer I don't know when they did it last, but MLS players have appeared on Kellogg's cereal boxes. There was even one with Tony the Tiger (as in "Theyyyyy're Grrrrrrrrrrrrreat!") holding the MLS Cup. I don't recall if the USMNT has had that sort of promotion, although the women's team had one.
I'm not pleased.I know we can represent a lot better and we should represent better! We should have shown so much more against those teams and like I said the wins are good but they sure weren't great.
