Awesome, it would be nice if there was more info on this site like when it will be, but I'll be there if I'm here. Sounds like fun.

December 22 is what it said on the first link I put up there. It's going to be great to go watch. I'm looking forward to it. I'll try to find something about when tickets might go on sale also.

I wonder if it will be held at Reliant or at Robertson?

It shows Relint. I guess that is the best place to have it since I think this will be a sell out. Think of all the star players that will be there. I say we have another 75K+ soccer event at Reliant.

Exactly, and I'm thinking that it's because we had such a large crowd for the Club America Barca game. Largest futbol crowd in Texas history.

--Just an update after reading more on the website. It looks to me as if it is only going to be held in Houston, and not anywhere else. What does everyone else think after reading this?-- (see below)

The Free Kick Masters is a skills-based international soccer competition featuring some of the world’s top rated free kickers competing against some of the world’s top rated goalkeepers in a free kick shootout to declare the world’s “Free Kick Master” and “Golden Goalkeeper”. The last Free Kick Masters event held in 2004 in Marbella, Spain was sold out and broadcast to over 30 countries and an estimated 110 million viewers.

The Free Kick Masters 2007 will be held in Houston, Texas. The player crowned “Free Kick Master” will receive $1 million in prize money, and the “Golden Goalkeeper” title winner will receive $0.5 million in prize money.

The Free Kick Masters panel of judges includes former players and distinguished coaches from around the world.

Professional referees will be keeping score to the official standards and regulations as set by the professional football association. The referees will be chosen by draw and distributed amongst the groups in the qualifying phase and final.

Re: [NDR] Has any one else heard about Free Kick Masters?

I'm rather puzzled because from what I can tell it was highly publicised in Spain yet I haven't seen anything in the papers yet. I'll be looking for tickets for this event, but how fun is it?

Is there a wall or do the players just go 1v1.

This thing sounds pretty cool, as long as Becks or Ronaldhino dont win. Heres to Brad Davis, he has got my vote

I'm thinking 1v1 since it's just Free Kick Master, and Golden Goalie. Could be wrong though.

Uumm it would be really good for MLS if Beckham won something like this because it would make it look like we have good players.

I would rather see someone from the MLS win, but I don't even know who is going to be in it much less if anyone from MLS will be in it.

If Beckham wins, it wont help the mls that much, but if a guy who has played in the mls their entire career wins, then the mls will look alot better. I want Brad Davis in it, he can win.

It would be cool for a home town guy to win it. I wish they would hurry up and post the other participants besides Ronaldhino. Guess they're busy signing up the big names. Has anybody found out anything about the last one, who played in it? I will look later on, busy now....

IMO Nakamura would win it if he actually shows up. Anyway when can we buy tickets?

ok, response to a couple of posts between my last post and now.....

I know that Beckham will be in the MLS by December, but as cmack said, it wouldn't help much. I still have yet to find anything out about tickets. It's not until December, so I'm guessing maybe October, September at the earliest. I have been wrong before though. I'll try to check up in a few days.

Won't these players be right in the middle of their seasons? December. Euro Leagues are going on during this.

I was thinking the same thing, but you know they always find time to do something. It's kind of like the MLS with Superliga. They wil be mid-season, and they find the time. So I guess that's about the only way to explain it.

Is this NASL shoot out or bend it like Beckham freekicks?

Pretty sure it's free kicks. Dead ball situations and things of that nature.

Found the rules. Kicks from 18, 21 and 25 meters. Pretty far out.

This kind of made for TV competition is going to fill up Reliant? I jumped all over the doubleheader last year with Barca and CA and the Dynamo and loved both games, but this event seems kind of cheezy to me. I wouldn't be interested unless there is some other announcement we haven't heard yet.

Like a real game...between two teams. Anyone else feel that way?
