n.v. = Overtime i.e. = Penalty Kicks Some serious upsets in this round. Amateur Clubs knocked out one BL (Hertha) and two BL2 Teams (St. Pauli and KTown). The Defending Champs were knocked out by a BL2 Side and German Champs Stuttgart had to go to OT to beat Paderborn (after a 2:0 lead). Most painful for me is the 6:0 drubbing my Homey's received. It was so painful the coach quit this morning. Curiosity: He was hired in 2006 after the previous Coach was let go (after a loss to the same team). Damn you, Rostock!
More on the Coaches Resignation. Ah, seems like the old days are back. 2. Bundesliga 31.10.2007 19:02:06 Over, done, finished: Coach Frank resigns in Offenbach Frank resigns in Offenbach Offenbach's coach Wolfgang Frank resigned after the 0-6 defeat to Rostock in the DFB Cup and his squad's performance in past weeks. After the 0-6 defeat against Hansa Rostock and six straight winless matches, the board of Kickers Offenbach decided to ask the team to meet with them in the hotel after their catastrophic loss, and to do so in the absence of their coach. Frank was informed Wolfgang Frank was informed about this beforehand. "We simply wanted to hear from the squad members themselves what the reasons were for the current lack of success", said vice president Thomas Kalt. Afterwards, Kalt, sporting director Michael Dämgen and Jörg Hambückers informed coach Wolfgang Frank about what was discussed with the team. Frank took this as an opportunity to tender his resignation (immediately effective) with Kickers Offenbach. He justified the move by saying he felt the board's approach expressed mistrust, which undermines the basis for any future success for a collaboration between him and OFC. The board of Kickers Offenbach accepted Frank's decision. Interim coach Ramon Berndroth Ramon Berndroth, coach of the U-23, will take over in the interim with assistant coach Manfred Binz. They will be getting the squad ready for the home match on Friday against Greuther Fürth. The board has already begun searching for a new coach.
Munchen and Bremen advanced. Sweet. Sorry about the drubbing. That's a helluva way to loose. At least he didn't punch a hole in anything....
Yeah, key injuries on Offense, Defense and Goalie and not having a very deep roster will do that to you. Almost everyone did not expect a result, but I think no one expected a 6:0 either. Highest loss since losing to Bayern in Munich 9:0 in '84 I think. Of course I would not want to be around the Hertha Berlin Offices right now, losing to Wuppertal.
3rd Round Matchups for 29/30 January 2008: The 3 remaining Amateur Teams get some Big Name Clubs as visitors. Sounds like some tournament fixing is going on to keep the little man down. Go Werder Bremen II!!!!!!!
So what happens when FC Bayern Munchen advances? Do we get to see Shwabe have a heart-attack if they play Stuttgart and win?
Round completed with some minor upsets. Two second division teams knocked out BL teams.
