No Dynamo this year-I believe this the first time that we have been shut out in this department. I can't believe that Chingy didn't even get a Commisioner's pick and Benny Glass takes Pontius over Bruin or Cooper. Sheesh, what a joke. Those guys are going to get torched by the Blues.
I would have loved to see Corrales and Ching be the commissioner picks as a nod to both of their services, but complaining about Pontius being chosen over Bruin is laughable. Pontius is clearly a better player than Will, and I like Will a lot.
But this is MLS-and everyone just looks at stats right? So by your thinking-you are telling me you'd rather have Pontius than Cooper?
Yes I believe Pontius is a better overall player than Cooper, but it is by a closer margin than Pontius to Bruin. Look, I'm not trashing Will or Kenny, they are both certainly above average players in this league, but stats don't tell the whole story when talking about Pontius' game. Not to ride the guys jock or anything but I think it is pretty apparent that he is a special player. He has more skill than Will or Kenny, more speed, and more creativity and fluidity on the ball. He is a big part of what DC is doing this year and the pick is justified.
I agree with you-Pontius should go over Bruin, but over Cooper? He's the guy who really got robbed. The thing with Pontius is-remember he has a DeRo and even Cooper has Henry and Lindpere. Bruin has Davis, who is having a sub standard year to date.
I think it's a good thing because it gives more rest for the Dynamo plus the All Star game is during the 1st week of the CCL.
They have to pick an entire other "shadow" squad of all-stars for bonus purposes (it used to be East vs. West so they have 36 all-star slots) so I bet Bruin ends up getting his all-star bonus but doesn't play in the game.
http://www.houstondynamo.com/news/2012/07/cameron-davis-named-inactive-all-star-roster westside was right. Now how they got those two, beats me.
now if we could just agree that DomK is the best coach in MLS... come on OTH!!! over a six year period, HE HAS been the best overall... FACE IT.
While I agree that Taylor is a good player, I also think Collin is a good player also - he certainly was the man of the match for KC when we played them. Without him there defense isn't nearly as good. KC has the fewest allowed goals in the league. Collin may be stronger in the air but Taylor is faster. Collin did get beat by Terry on that corner.
Well, Collin apparently came back on the field with two facial fractures. He's going to be out a couple of weeks.
Is it wrong of me to think "Serves him right"? Not just for that wonderful football tackle he had that caused the injury, but because he is a d*** of a player?
I knew Collin got jacked up after he just laid there hugging the Chelsea player he smashed into for several seconds.
Here's the piece at the official MLS site on Aurelien Collin's injuries: Sporting KC's Collin suffers facial fractures, out 1-2 weeks
