    Apparently there is some tournament on this summer. Weird. Not heard much about it.

    Anyway.

    ESPN Classic is showing all the previous European Championship Finals.

    Netherlands vs Soviet Union from 1988 has just started.

    Classic game. The 88 Dutch side was a very good team - Gullit, Van Basten et al

    Van Basten was class and Gullit was great pre knee injuries.

    Ruskies had Alexei Mikhailichenko in that side the guy has a hel'va WC in 90 won a move to the Darkside...biggest waste of cash since Tro Andre Flop for the Huns

    I was in Holland a month after the championship in 88 and it was amazing how pumped up everyone still was after winning.

    There's something about the Euros which brings out the worst in us. Apart from 96 we have generally been useless in it. And even 96 was not as good as some people remember.

    88,92 and 2000 were all disasters. 2004 was meh and as for this year.....

    Right. Useless.

    We're not good enough is the problem, really and need to stop producing cart horses.

    That 96 squad was the most flair we'd ever had apart from maybe italia 90.

    maybe so...format was a tuffy as well still that was some team in its own right Shilton Adams Lineker Barnes Waddle(that was some Mullet) Robson McManhon

    I agree about the 96 squad. I just think people look at it through rose tinted glasses. We only looked really good against the Dutch. One performance masked a two/three very average ones.

    Capello annoyed me the another day as well. The same damn midfield that has done nothing for 4+ years.......

    Looked much better once Barry and Bentley were on.
