http://www.cafcussa.com/CAUSSA.htm Anyone know something about this? Too bad this wasn't around when I was in high school. Northwest Ohio could use more academies/clubs. From the site: Charlton Athletic of the English Premier League has announced the opening of the Northwest Ohio Academy to be based in Tiffin Ohio. The academy will have the same objectives and goals as the national academy in London as well as the satellite academies around the world; primarily the development of players with opportunity for senior academy players to play at the professional level. As a Professional Soccer Club, Charlton Athletic knows the importance of teaching children at a young age. The Charlton Athletic Junior Soccer Academy in NWO is being started for this purpose, to educate children in a Professional method. CAFC have over a 100+ years experience working within communities and know that children learn better while having FUN. Players now living in NWO region now have the opportunity to be part of this unique soccer academy that works with children the world over. The N.W.O. Junior Academy is open to players aged between 5 and 10 who live in the Northwest Ohio area. Its opening date is slated for mid November 2005. A senior academy will be opened within 18 months of the junior academy. The curriculum of the academy will be based on the successful learning curriculum developed within the Charlton Athletic Academy in England. Charlton will train all staff and all members of the academy in N.W.O who will have access to the academies around the world for training, playing and visiting purposes. CAFC will provide full support in terms of equipment, training and co ordination of staff and players as well as events as needed by the academy in Northwest Ohio. The Junior Academy in N. W. Ohio will offer sessions for boys and girls aged between 5 and 10 years of age over an eleven month period. The sessions will run for sixty minutes twice per week. For a full curriculum brochure and application please contact Academy Director Dr Brian Haley at: bhaley@cafcussa.com Children ages 5- 6 yrs. will be learning through different types of games with emphasis on basic techniques. Children ages 7-8 yrs. main focus will be on individual work, learning correct techniques, control passing, body position. Children ages 9-10 teamwork, team formation, and laws of the game. Our main goals are to educate and develop each child, while not forgetting the principle of FUN. Learning life skills through the greatest game in the world, SOCCER.
That academy is going to be really really great right when it opens up. It will surprise people how good that academy will be at the beginning. But unfortunately, some time around its second month of operation, the Academy will begin to make a bunch of puzzling mistakes, it's offensive talent will dry up, and it will end up in the middle of the pack as far as academies go.
Any chance Alan Curbishley will be around long enough for us to Mickey Finn his Gatorade and induct him into the cult of Crewdom? Why Tiffin?
Brian Haley is the longtime Head Coach at Heidelberg College in Tiffin. He is also one of the founders, or perhaps THE founder, of Great Britain Buckeye Soccer Camps.
i'm not familiar with youth soccer in this area, mainly because i don't know anyone involved with it. but basically, is there any sort of high level academy, or is it mainly just club teams and the ODP program? also, has there been any official word from the Crew organization why they have not started any sort of program?
Coaching staff looks like normal, run of the mill guys. Big deal, nothing to see here - that is, unless it is FREE>>>>
