In another Third Round game, SMU leads Tulsa 1-0 in the 65th minute. Alex Smith scored for the Ponies in (around) the 57th, assist to Jake Jackson. You can listen to this game on BigSoccerRadio. http://radio.bigsoccer.com/ Click under "always streaming" to whatever media player you prefer.
67th minute, SMU is called for a handball in the box. Who else, but Ryan Pore steps up and converts the PK, 1-1.
Did I mention I hate PKs? This one and done in the NCAAs is starting to get very, very old....ARGH #*($&YU#(
Pore is a star man. He is my pick for player of the year and he's just a junior. He is carrying Tulsa on his back.
St. John's leads UCLA 2-0 in the 60th or so. Andre Schmid in about the 40th and Ashley Kozicki in the 60th. http://www.ncaasports.com/soccer/mens/gamecenter/boxscore/38/01 Looks like St. John's could get a chance at redemption with a Maryland team that kicked the crap out of it early in the regular season. That is, if the Terps take care of business tomorrow.
ONE FINAL FOUR in Hyndman's 20+ year career. And they lost the semifinal. Then again, Delaware and Tubby Raymond won an NCAA Football Championship in like '79 and not again until Raymond was gone. And it was on his terms. Since I'm a native Delawarian, I'll take it. I'm sure SMU'll will win whatever conference they are in again next year and then lose in the tourney. Bitter. Thx, Jay! SMU '91
Have to feel a little sorry for Wake playing in bad conditions in both the ACC semifinal and again last night. Unfortunately they continue to prove they can't win anything beyond the regular season.
I'm not quote sure I see the connection between Delaware football and SMU soccer. You say Delaware won it all (in 1-AA) then didn't win it again till they got a new coach. SMU has never won it all. Are you saying if, like Delaware, SMU got a new coach they might win it all? I'm not trying to be a dick, I just don't get your analogy. And, yes, with all the talent SMU has had over the years, they should have more than one trip to the Final Four on their resume.
Third round has resumed. In the 23rd minute, Duke leads Ohio State 1-0 on an 11th minute goal from Mike Videira assisted by Danny Kramer. http://www.ncaasports.com/soccer/mens/gamecenter/boxscore/35/01 Maryland-Creighton scoreless inj the 22nd. http://www.ncaasports.com/soccer/mens/gamecenter/boxscore/37/01
Halftime, still 0-0 in College Park. Terps outshooting the Jays 9-3, 3-1 on goal, 2-1 on corners. Seems pretty clean, 5 Creighton fouls to UM's 3. Duke took its 1-0 lead to the break, outshooting OSU, 6-3, but only two on goal to 3 for OSU. Even on corners (1) and fouls (10). Gotta go run some errands so someone else will have to take the lead on updates.
OSU loses 3-0 to Duke with Duke scoring 2 in the final 10 minutes. Good run by OSU this year. Duke is looking very strong, Virgina will have their hands full. 1-0 win by Indiana over BC Still 0-0 Creighton v Maryland in the 2nd OT. Might go to PKs. 0-0 going into the second half UCSB v UNCG
Terps win in PKs 5-4 after 7 rounds of kicks. They host St. John's next weekend. By the way, the scoreboard on NCAA Sports is kinda screwy, it was saying SMU beat Tulsa 1-0.
Santa Barbara 1 Greensboro 0 Bly with a golden goal in 1st OT. SB with ten men from the sixth minute on....first ever Elite Eight appearance!
Crap why couldn't they have only 10 men last week!?! I would have liked to see my team playing this weekend. *pout*
Anyone looking for how much parity is in college soccer this year need look no further than this year's third round to see how close the teams were. Three games decided by PKs, two more in OT and two one-goal regulation games. The only game that wasn't decided by a goal or less was Duke-Ohio State and that was 1-0 till Duke scored 2 goals after the 80th minute when the Bucks had pushed numbers forward.
...and the Gauchos are at home for the quarterfinal, with a short trip to the HDC for the College Cup. Let's go Gauchos *Clap, Clap, Clap-Clap-Clap* Let's go Gauchos
