Sweet 16 by conference. ACC: Clemson, NC State, Pittsburgh, SMU, Stanford, Virginia, Wake Forest Big Ten: Indiana, Ohio State Atlantic-10: Dayton, Massachusetts Summit: Denver, Kansas City America East: Vermont Sun Belt: Marshall West Coast: San Diego 11 of the 16 play D-1 football. That money filters down to the rest of the programs. Even at UMass. There are also 6 former national champions and 13 programs that have been to the College Cup (all but two this century).
Interesting observation re DI football. I always wonder how financing a high-end program happens at place like Denver, with no football or big-time hoops program above it to throw off revenue. I'd also love to see the budgets and coaching salaries for those 16. Safe to assume Missouri-Kansas City is the low end there? Or maybe Vermont? Just guesses on my part.
Just wait until Sandon adds Stanford's many championships to the ACC totals. Per Wiki, "Stanford's program has won 136 NCAA team championships, the most of any university."
No Big 12 men’s soccer but the same can be said about that conference with 16 teams. Ironic that the Big 10 has more teams than the Big 12. The Big 10 hasn’t had 10 teams since 1990 when Penn State joined. Before they stylized the conference name to B1G, for those that remember, the conference logo had the “11” in the middle to symbolize the actual number of teams in the conference, How are you supposed to do that with 18 teams? I guess “B1G” is appropriate since the conference certainly in big.
I found the 2021 UVM salary report -- sr21.pdf Soccer Head Coach Robert Dow made about $80,000 that year. The men's Basketball Head Coach John Becker made about $354,000. The difference may be explained in part by the apparent "Meghan and Robert Cioffi Basketball Head Coach" endowment. This report lists the summed annual salaries of UVM employees (summing the salaries of each individual’s paid regular positions) as of November 1st each year. The job titles in this report refer to each employee’s primary job title, as listed in PeopleSoft. The salaries listed are monies expected to be paid out to an employee during the fiscal year. The base pay salaries do not include potential additional pays or reductions that may occur within the fiscal year. Base pay depends upon full-time equivalency, length of appointment, relevant experience, skills and training, duties and responsibilities, and merit.
They may have a pay cut during Covid and also the new amount may include camps... but well deserved in Two Sweet Sixteens and an Elite Eight in the last three years. This is the guy (like Marc Hubbard) that you hire if you are at a P4 program. Winners Win!
I don't know about anyone else but Chris Grassie at Marshall makes 375,750 dollars and for a few year and maybe still is the highest paid DI Men's soccer head coach. Don't hold me to it but also a few years ago I know Todd Yeagley at Indiana was making 317,000.
Mike Noonan of Clemson, he of 2 national titles, is reportedly making 400K per. https://www.greenvilleonline.com/st...son-football-assistants-paid-2022/9301724002/
Grassie was making 111,000 before Marshall's National Title in the spring of 2021. He signed a new contract 3 days later uping his pay to 375,750. That contract was for 5 years. Before this season started Grassie signed a 6 year ext. Its not known if that contract will go into effect next year or after next year 2025. Grassie will be under contract until 2031 or 2032.
Yep, and I have a feeling that Grassie will be there as long as he wants. Outside of playing simi pro 2 years in 2002 and 2003 and his 4 year stint as a asst. at Michigan from 2007-2010 he has played or coached in the state of WV since he was 17.
