Is NC State now playing at the new stadium in Cary? I saw that they are hosting the NCAA 1 men's championships in two years there.
The SAS Stadium hosted the ACC Tournament this year. It would be nice if NC St would use it for home games since it is only 5 miles or so from campus and a major upgrade from their Method Road field. I understand the next two College Cups will be held at Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio in 2003 and in LA at the Home Depot Complex in 2004. Were you referring to 2005 in Cary NC?
Re: Re: NC State and Cary stadium The College Cup will be in Cary in 2005. NC State played five games (or somewhere around that number) at SAS this year. NC State is getting a new facility. It should be ready for the 2004 season.
They are renovating Derr. Several years back State also renovated Derr to accomodate soccer. There was only one problem--they didn't make the field wide enough. (I'm not making this up.) The women actually played a few games there. I remember them playing Carolina at Derr and the small field played to State's pack-it-in tactics. I hope they look at a rule book before making the next renovation.
A school doesn't have to play in a facility to be the host. The lacrosse tournaments are at Ravens Stadium in Baltimore with four schools serving as co-hosts. The ones that use big arenas (basketball, wrestling) have someone appointed as host for logistics, etc. That said, it would be great for a college to be playing at places like SAS and CCS and HD, even if it is just once in a while.
