By having cable, YouTube TV, Hulu Live, etc. I have a Roku TV and YouTube TV. Roku isn't a TV provider except for their free streaming channel. Everything is done through apps except for antenna if you've got a Roku TV and not just a box or stick. Your cable or live streaming service is no different than anything else on Roku.

Did you answer my question?? :)

For decades I've used Tivo for watching TV channels like USA. But them cable provider stopped supporting mcard cable cards that you need for Tivos. So now, while I still have a cable subscription, for the moment only 1 of my 2 TV's has a set top box to watch TV channels. Thus, on one of my TV's, in order to watch an EPL game that's on USA, I have to use Roku and the NBC Sports app. Maybe there's a USA app, but I doubt it would have better sports streaming controls than NBC Sports apps does.

So, for this interim period, while I can only watch "TV" by using Roku (on that one TV without a set top box), is there some better way for me to watch the NBC/USA games on Roku without the NBC Sports app? That was my original question.

There are probably a couple other ways you could watch, but they would be live only with no FF/RW controls. There's an NBC app (not sports) that should give you the live feeds of all NBC channels that you get in your cable package. Your cable company may also have its own app that streams all of the channels in your subscription. Probably neither of these options are better than using the NBC Sports app, unless that app stops working.

    Browser.

Besides planes grounded; financial markets ground to a halt; life saving medical operations postponed; freight lines disrupted; widespread blackouts; Ukraine back to lobbing missiles? As NBC probably uses the internet within its network there probably wouldn't be anything available.

The NBC Sports apps is not useless, especially on Roku where it has all the most basic features you need, especially the ability to got FWD/FFD/LIVE. The main complaint I was voicing was about that app on my iPad (iOS) where it's lacking 1 or 2 of those key controls. But Joe Greene was saying I shouldn't be using NBC Sports app on Roku, and I still haven't heard about a Roku app which is better than that for watching the NBC/USA-aired games.

LOL. Yeah that was kinda my point. If I want/need to use Roku to watch on my TV screen, I'm probably doing it the best way I can. Otherwise I have to just give up on using that TV and use my computer/browser instead.

p.s. This is not going to be a long-term issue for me. I will solve the problem for my 2nd TV which doesn't currently have a cable box, which is why I'm fully reliant on Roku for that TV.

Literally download the app from your cable provider on your Roku and watch it there.

So you mean there's an Optimum app on Roku? Didn't know that. AND it would be a better, fuller featured way of watching the EPL compared to NBC's own apps?

There should be, but a quick google search shows Optimum hasn't built an app for Roku. That's insane to me as Spectrum had one when I lived in Hawaii 8.5 years ago. Then again, Optimum is the only cable option where I live now which is the primary reason I have YouTube TV.

They've got apps for Google TV and Apple TV, but not Roku which has the largest share of the streaming device market.

Yeah, as long as you have Optimum you're screwed.

Sorry to throw myself on the community here instead of doing a ton of googling, but I’m thinking of ditching my YouTube tv subscription. If I do that, can anyone recommend how I can still watch USMNT and USWNT matches***, given this leaves me with the following subs:
    • Peacock
    • Paramount +
    • ESPN +
I also have no antenna so can’t get any over the air channels, but can of course get an antenna (looks like there are Black Friday deals on these).
***As far as I know, most US matches are on TNT only…?
Thanks to my fellow Big Soccer community!

It depends. From what I remember USSF doesn't control the TV rights to away games.

    1. If you're getting an antenna check out The Antenna Man on YouTube. Lots of good info - avoid anything that lists a ridiculous range for channel pickup like 150 miles. Earth's curvature makes that essentially impossible.

I get around 60 OTA channels in Lubbock with a simple Mohu Leaf antenna stuck to my window.

    2. US national team games are on Max now as well. At some point they're going to charge extra for the sports portion of Max but I don't think they have started yet. Peacock has the Spanish language broadcasts.

As @TheJoeGreene pointed out, Max (English) and Peacock (Spanish) will get you the national team games when the USSF controls the rights. Sometimes the Spanish broadcast will be on Telemundo which you may be able to get with an antenna. For official tournaments the rights will be elsewhere, such as the men's Nations League finals in March which will be on Paramount+, while the Gold Cup will be on Fox networks. I think the Univision networks have the Spanish rights to both of those (more sure about the Gold Cup than the Nations League).

Tournaments on Fox are the worst to deal with for streaming, since it doesn't have a platform equivalent to P+ or Peacock. Games on the main network are on the antenna, while games on FS1/FS2 you have to figure something out or look to the Spanish options. The main Univision and UniMas networks may have over-the-air games, and Univision has the ViX streaming service and it may put the tournaments there. That's probably something to verify closer to the time of the tournament. I know people who reluctantly do a short-term subscription to YouTube TV or one of its competitors when a Fox tournament rolls around.

The USWNT is going to be in friendlies on the Max/Peacock package for the near term until CONCACAF schedules its next women's tournament.

Thanks to @TheJoeGreene and @ThreeApples. Since I have Peacock, look like I can still watch (some) US games (albeit in Spanish), or OTA with the Spanish language channels. Paying for the three streamers I listed above sure beats the monthly YTtv rate!

The best option I've found for figuring out the channel of a specific game is https://www.livesoccertv.com/. They're accurate about 95% of the time.

Interesting. I use GoalZone sometimes when I wanna keep an eye on multiple other teams matches. Maybe I'd try multi-view either instead or when GZ isn't an option?

If anyone confirms what platform this work on (for me I mostly use Peacock on Roku or iOS) let us know! :)

It's working perfectly in my office on my PC using Firefox. Kudos to Peacock for continuing to upgrade their product so much.

If Spanish is a barrier, games (including pre and postgame) have been on Max. When the partnership first started, it was "most games on Max with others on TNT" but that's since changed. All games recently have been simulcast on Max and a linear TV channel...usually TNT and TruTV, but sometimes they're on TBS instead. I digress.

There's been serious discussion of them making sports an additional fee, but it hasn't happened yet.

I remember Paramount+ having CONCACAF WCQ from other countries, but since the USA doesn't have to qualify for the next WC...

I'm not sure what WBD is doing with Max. They've got sports separated into a B/R Sports tab now, with the announced intention to charge extra for it, but today they announced they're rolling out live streams of the linear HBO channels to people on either of their non-ad tiers.

    https://thestreamable.com/max-to-add-live-streams-of-linear-hbo-channels-for-select-subscribers

I wouldn't be shocked if the sports "add-on" is included with the ad-free tiers but costs extra for the ad-supported tier once it all shakes out.

In think the SUM/USSF divorce has been good for the NTs but English TV coverage is still an issue. People are still complaining they can't find games.

For home games USSF should go for maximum potential audience over $. More viewers means more sponsorship revenue.

Away CONCACAF games should be sold as a package by CONCACAF (with the hosting fed getting a %) rather than individually by the hosting federation.

Cool. How do you do it? Is there a new MV tile or can you switch to MV from within any live match stream?
