Thanks for all your efforts to save us money. Truly. I missed how much is the black friday discount % or cost? Sorry if you already said this. I'm sad to say I'm a little out of touch with how (much) I've been paying Peacock. That's the way the various streamers like it obviously... that we just lose track an pay/renew. In my case, I just checked and I'm on Peacock Premium for $7.99/mo. Presumably if I switch to annual (which I thought I was already on) and use your promo code, I can come out ahead?
Very much ahead. $20 for a year with code RealDeal $2/mo for six months with RealDealMonthly Tax extra If you want the version that removes commercials from the archives pay the difference. I signed up for the yearly with no commercials. It's something like $26 for the first month and then $6 for each month 2-12. (It's a bit more than that because it's a bit more than $6 with the change plus add tax.) If I want to alternate between commercials and no commercials, I have that option. The downside is that I run the risk of having anywhere from a few days to just under a month WITH commercials, as I did last time. I upgraded a few days later last time which meant I had to go a week or so earlier this month WITH commercials. Because you're already on a plan and the promo ends on 12/2 at 3am ET... I'd get Peacock's agents on the phone/web ASAP and see if they can't cancel you immediately. If you do it now, there's more of a window next year. If you go without for a few days next year (as I did this year), that's better than waiting until 12/1 in the late evening. It does appear to be part of Spectrum TV plans. https://cordcuttersnews.com/spectru...ded-for-subscribers-in-new-nbcuniversal-deal/ The contract between NBC and DirecTV (also includes U-Verse, DirecTV Stream and DirecTV with Internet) should be up by the end of the year. This is worth watching for at least two reasons: The expected addition of Peacock AND the spinoff of the linear channels NOT named NBC or Bravo. For customers like me who DON'T get Reelz on TV, but *do* get it on Peacock, yeah, I'm also watching how that develops. It's part of the basic DirecTV Stream plan, but not part of my lower-level U-Verse plan. Also of note: DirecTV Stream and DirecTV with Internet have the Pittsburgh RSN in my area. I don't get it on U-Verse, but I did at one time. It was pulled (my guess) because U-Verse never expanded into Pittsburgh.
BTW, if you're looking for deals The Streamable has an ongoing list. https://thestreamable.com/what-are-...s-available-for-black-friday-and-cyber-monday
Are you saying I can still get Peacock Premium for only $20/yr?! I don't really know all the Peacock tiers but I think Premium got me EPL and limited commercials on other stuff. Could be wrong about that though. Like I said I've not focused on it in a long time.
Yep, that $20 for the plan with limited ads is legit. I got it back in the summer before the Olympics.
No doubt you are currently on Peacock Premium, where $7.99/month is the regular price. There are only two tiers--Premium Plus removes the ads on archived content and gives you a streaming feed of your local NBC affiliate. I was on the $1.99/month Black Friday plan from last year, which was a 12-month offer that time. I canceled last week so I would be able to use a new promo this week. My access ended yesterday (my billing date) and I just bought the $19.99 one-year promo a few minutes ago.
Technically, there's a free tier, but only for grandfathered customers. The free tier is EXTREMELY basic and doesn't include EPL. This is one of those "You'd know if you had it" things.
I believe that's for new costumers. I'm fairly sure I got an extremely limited number of shows during my non-premium time. Imagine if it was just the current episodes of NBC shows and not much more. https://bgr.com/entertainment/you-can-no-longer-subscribe-to-peacock-for-free/ https://www.androidauthority.com/is-peacock-free-3195942/ I do have a second account that is unpaid where I do get a very small sampling of content.
Just wanted to say that earlier today I successfully switched from the standard $8/mo Premium to $20/yr Premium (for Black Friday) someone above had advised me to speak to a human to do the switch. Finding that they have no apparent phone support, I did a web chat. That was a little slow, and ultimately probably unnecessary, but it helped assure me slightly. Basically, they helped confirm that I could keep my same account/login and switch plans. Then the one thing they could actually do for me was cancel my existing sub. But they couldn’t sign me up for a new plan, so I did that myself via my login to their website. And it was quick and easy. Thanks again for the reminder to take advantage of a really good deal.
I had premium already and they won't apply or extend with the Black Friday deal. It seems like my move should be to switch from Premium to basic next year when my sub expires and wait for the inevitable black Friday deal to switch back. I really don't use Peacock for much besides EPL. Does the basic plan have commercials during EPL matches or only at half-time?
Based on my experience (yesterday), you might be able to cancel your current sub, then immediately re-subscribe to the new offer. I think they will credit you any unused prorata portion of your prior sub. Others may know better than me about this though.
On EPL matches, there's a brief 15 or 30-second commercial when you select the match, and I believe there are commercials at halftime (I never watch halftime of live matches). There are definitely commercials at halftime on the archived matches, usually multiples. The key is to FF past the last of the halftime commercials (the dots on the progress bar) so you only have to sit through one set.
Thanks again for your post. Because of it, I signed up. I used to have Peacock for free when we still had Comcast cable, but shortly after Comcast cable subscribers had to start paying for Peacock, we dropped cable altogether. I wish Paramount Plus would also have the same great deal as Peacock. Guess I just have to keep paying for P+ at the normal ad supported rate.
You can get either Paramount+ plan for $3/mo for 2 months. They're usually good about letting you unsubscribe and sign up immediately for a better deal. https://thestreamable.com/get-paramount-plus-for-3-per-month-for-2-months-with-black-friday-deal Or you could look at getting Walmart+ and having Paramount+ for free with it or Paramount+ w/Showtime for half price.
Update: doing a little test now with the 9:30 AM ET showing of NF-LEI pregame… It only seems to be available on the NBC Sports app, not Peacock. (because it’s being aired on USA channel) I tried watching it on both my iPad and my Roku. They are quite similar with a few exceptions… On Roku I can use the right/left arrows to jump 10 seconds in either direction, and also the FFWD button to go to live. On iPad I can touch the -10secs button but the +10secs button is always greyed out. The only way to go forward is to go all the way to the end by clicking the little Live button. Which is kind of all or nothing. And the slider bar cannot be dragged at all. I just find it curious that there are these differences between the apps, running on different platforms, and why they wouldn’t provide the same controls under iOS. Ps. I haven’t tried updating my iPad iOS version or my app on this device. But I’m sure both are fairly recent and as such shouldn’t really have those deficiencies IMHO. Pps. Now watching gold rush on Peacock on iPad and the controls work perfectly: -10, +10, go live, slider bar, etc. The way all GUI’s should do.
I didn't try the NBC Sports app at first, but I just tried it through YTTV on my Samsung A9+ and it had 15 second skip forward and backward available. All the Peacock matches have a working 10 second skip forward or back on it as well. I did just download the NBC Sports app on my tablet and while the 10 second forward option worked, the match was over 10 minutes behind real time. It's one of the lowest rated Android apps and I immediately removed it.
Thanks to @Kryptonite’s post, I signed up for Peacock. Now I read there’s a game on the NBC Sports app, and NOT on Peacock?!?! Wtf? How many different apps do we need to watch all EPL games within the entire NBC ecosystem?! And I agree with @NorthBank that it’s frustrating the same app has different controls depending on how the user accesses the app.
NBC Sports app is for NBC/USA games, aka not Peacock. Really, nobody should be using that app when most TV providers already have their own.
Ooooh, so games that air on NBC can be seen on the NBC Sports app for those who can’t get actual NBC. That’s great! But I don’t understand how someone can also watch USA matches on the NBC Sports app? NBC is free “over the air”, but USA is normally a channel you have to pay for. Don’t get me wrong - if I can watch USA games on the NBC Sports app, that’s fantastic, but I don’t understand how it can be “free”.
No. Good lord no. The NBC Sports app works off of your TV provider. They'll give you a short preview, usually 30 minutes, but if you don't have NBC then you can't watch the full NBC games on the app. Same with games on USA. This isn't new. It's been this way for 4 years now. It's not remotely difficult to figure out. Peacock games are exclusive to Peacock. NBC/USA games are exclusive to antenna (NBC) or your TV provider (NBC & USA). To watch on NBC Sports you have to actually have a TV provider and link it to the account. Again, it's been this way for FOUR YEARS. It's the same way the ABC/ESPN, Fox Sports, and CBS Sports apps work. With that said, this is likely going to start changing in the future. Right now the Grambling vs Southern football game is on NBC, NBC Sports, AND Peacock. ESPN is starting to have games from their networks also have a separate ESPN+ feed. It's why ESPN is creating an all inclusive app at a higher price point. I wouldn't be surprised if NBC ditches games on USA altogether when they spin off their cable channels. There's already a tier of Peacock that allows you to get your local NBC channel.
That I don't understand. If I use Roku for streaming on my TV, how would I watch an NBC/USA game without the NBC Sports app? p.s. For several reason using my TV's smarttv mode is not an option
