Yeah, I've seen enough swimming to last me a lifetime. Granted, I only watched two 100m swimming heats so far.

IIRC, the heavy dose of swimming and gymnastics is replaced by Track & Field in the second week of the Olympics. Looking forward to that.

The decline of East African dominance in men's distance is certainly making things more interesting.

This. As a captive sports fan, yeah...the human interest stuff is generally boring. Some of the ESPN College GameDay stuff can be interesting, though... although maybe that comes from me being a football fan.

The Washington State "popcorn guy" sticks out as an example.

Yup. Get ready for lots and lots of running and jumping next week.

Sidenote: I have a 1996 Olympic Torch Relay shirt from someone who completed in the 1972 Games in track and field.

Pretty much all of the live stuff during the day is covered pretty well as a sports event. I've been watching the prime time show, and it seems notably worse than it used to be. It's probably because this is the first time in a while that they haven't had any live events in prime time. They had Brazil and then three straight times in Asia (including the winter). Midday in East Asia is prime time to late night in the US, so they had some events to show live and that comes across as more authentic because they have to roll with whatever happens. This year's prime time show is so heavily edited and packaged and they don't even bother trying the much-derided "plausibly live" presentation that they used to do. It was just useful for seeing the US gymnastics and various swimming finals that I didn't see because I was at work. I've been too busy to watch much more than soccer and whatever NBC decides to feed me in prime time, but I plan to go deep into the track & field feeds on Peacock.

FYI Track & Field is already in full swing, including the women's 100m and men's Decathalon which started at 4:00a ET this morning. Men's 100m starts tomorrow in the wee hours.

I don't know Romo, but was he as monotone?

Perhaps Timmie is getting better as an analyst but as a cocom he could use to talk a little bit less it seems to me. Sometimes leaving a bit of open space is better than filling it up with near constant chatter.

    I'm having an interesting situation.

I have Peacock on my phone, Chromecast (main TV) and Samsung smart TV (secondary TV) as a built-in app. All apps work on the Samsung TV *except* for Peacock. The Wi-Fi works fine. Peacock works fine on the other TV and the phone.

I've rebooted the TV, reset to factory settings, reset the SmartHub thingy, deleted the cache/settings/app and even tested Peacock on someone else's Samsung smart TV.

If ANYONE has any ideas why "Peacock on one Samsung TV doesn't work but works every dang where else..." I'd love to hear it.

I get the Olympic rings and Peacock logo. The next screen is the sad cat with the "try again in a bit" and it's been a week or so now. I can't even log in or log out.

There is a code in the lower right when the cat appears, but it changes every time I click "try again."

Samsung and Peacock help were helpless.

    It's not the Wi-Fi.
I'm fairly sure it's not the TV.
    It's definitely not Peacock.

She’s seem nice as a person but is not inciteful in live analysis and is a bit of a homer.

This isn't exactly a secret. Heather Mitts was announcing for a short while, but she seems to have disappeared from public eye.

For Olympics, it's a shame Katie Witham is on Fox. Then again, NBC obviously hired Julie away from ESPN.

No definitely not a secret. But today she was below her usual paltry level.

As for being hired away, I don’t think many of these analysts are locked into one network. I think they’re more like free agents, because they often hop from channel to channel, and back again.

For my money Aly Wagner is still the best American woman doing that line of work.

Agreed on being hired away. Not long after I posted that Katie Witham bit, I saw her as the sideline commentator for MCFC vs Chelsea.

I love Peacock for EPL, but don't love that they start just before kickoff and end right at the final whistle. NBC did as expected and did not show any medal ceremony on Peackock. I set the DVR accordingly for USA Network but they only showed the Spain anthem. Am I missing something on Peacock? Is there an on-demand recording somewhere on Peacock that has the bronze, silver, gold full celebration for the men's game?

NBCSports app is a full 60secs behind my cable TV feed. They haven’t made things better… They’ve actually gotten worse.:mad:

ISP is not the issue. It’s their streaming tech/platform/app/etc. I’m not the only one who has this problem. And it’s not just one streamer (NBC) that adds so much lag.

ps. Later in it got better… “only” 20secs lag. Some… day, over the rainbow…

Internet transmission means compressing the data, slicing into pieces, sending it along multiple circuits and hubs, each one of which has latency built in, putting back in order, uncompressing it, then dealing with your wifi and your consumer device. The delays could happen anywhere

Cable TV is a super fast freeway by comparison. Over the air is a supersonic private jet.

There are always going to be delays. 20s is about as good as you can expect.

I do understand the latency challenges of Internet streaming. But if the problem was mainly due to my ISP, my results wouldn’t vary so much between different streamers. And it wouldn’t explain why NBCSports streams are generally laggier than Peacock streams, not to mention others (like ESPN+?) that seem to have generally less lag.

I don’t buy it that streamers and their engineers don’t have enough control to decrease the lag. And I’ve seen lags of 5-10 secs in the past, so I also don’t buy that 20 secs is the best we can get.

One last thing: when I compare my TV to my app/stream, my “TV” already has several seconds of latency built in because of my DVR’s buffer. So when my stream is 10secs behind my TV that’s really ~13secs behind true live.

This all just doesn’t work well enough in the age of Whatsapp, where some people are posting close to, if not true, live. I.e. people in the stadium.

I'm watching a game on season pass right now and tested on all my devices. On my Roku TV, it is the fastest. On my TV with Roku stick, it is 17 seconds behind that, and my phone is 31 seconds behind. The browser based radio stream appears to be about 20 seconds faster than anything else.

After I just reset them all, they are pretty much all different. So obviously there are bunch of various factors that differ from each unique stream.

Putting aside for a minute the annoyances of the new world of streaming…

During today’s PL Live pregame show there was this hilarious promo for the only game they’re airing on TV this weekend:

“It’s the London Derby!… Arsenal head to crosstown rivals Aston Villa”

    :ROFLMAO::eek::whistling::rolleyes::D

What made that all the funnier, was that there was this really compelling English dude reading the copy.

Both he and the NBC production team must have rather red faces after that one.

Do you think I could use an offer like this on an existing Peacock account/login? My Peacock login is embedded on many devices in my family and I/they don't want to go through the hassle of having to change it. Also I currently have Peacock Premium for $7.99/mo.

p.s. I notice this promo is NFL-oriented. I care zero about NFL. I have Peacock basically for EPL. Would this offer be fine for EPL too?
