No complaints at all in terms of how Mase has been handled this season. Ole got it right pretty much all the way thru thus far. Whether it was keeping him at the club and not sending him on loan, or in terms of his playing time and role over the course of the season. The end result speaks for itself really: never thought personally he'd have such a great/high impact first season at senior level.
124 minutes/goal. Better than anyone with 10+ goals in the PL this season barring Sergio Aguero. Golden boot type statistics.

Some stats from the beeb https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53412783 Man Utd's Greenwood has become the first player to score 10 Premier League goals in a season as a teenager since Romelu Lukaku in 2012-13 (14), and the first English player to do so since Wayne Rooney in 2004-05 (11). No teenager has ever scored more goals in a single season in all competitions for United than Greenwood (17 - level with George Best in 1965-66, Brian Kidd in 1967-68 and Rooney in 2004-05).
Literally saved our bacon today, when most of the team was just poor around him. Most impressive. Mason Greenwood’s game by numbers vs. West Ham:90% pass accuracy 23 final third passes 3 shots (2 on target)3 ball recoveries 2/3 take-ons1 big chance created 1 goal #MUFC pic.twitter.com/YlCrarWbEv— United Update (@UnitedsUpdate) July 22, 2020
More to come hopefully in the EL so he can break the 20 goal mark in his maiden season with the first team.
Obviously we've all gushed and will continue to do so, but the two goals that excite me the most were the right footed ones against Bournemouth and Villa. The Bournemouth defender did everything right. Showed him down the outside, but didn't give him too much space, was in position to block when MG feinted and then he put a rocket past the keeper. The Villa goal was special because of how much power he generated to score from outside the box without a huge backlift on his weaker foot. Like if he's going to be capable of beating your keeper at the near post from outside the box with his weak foot, where the ******** do you show him? Keep in mind that he scored that Bournemouth goal when a defender tried to take away a similar chance as the Villa goal. Basically if we get him the ball with any kind of room at the edge of the box, either side, he's trouble. Kid is disgusting.
A magic month for Mason 💫A big well done from everyone at #MUFC, @MasonGreenwood! ❤️ pic.twitter.com/vwYAr5Jlgx— Manchester United (@ManUtd) August 2, 2020
Greenwood gets inked. Predator. pic.twitter.com/MoD1PY2EM1— Man Utd Stuff (@ManUtdStuff) August 2, 2020 Mason's first ink. I'm a big fan of his choice.
Kid is a special talent. He's as good a finisher as I've ever seen at the club since Ruud left. Mason's base level is stupid. He has more angles he can shoot from than any United player I've ever seen. He can take the ball wide with his right, wide with his left, close to his body. Across his body far or near, inside out, outside in. He's just an immensely talented striker of the ball. There's a but. He needs to work on his movement and he needs to spend his entire break developing his 1st touch. He needs to turn into space, he needs to drive at defenders. He needs to vary his movement so that defenders can't always sit close to him. Mason should be getting 5 shots a game. There's no reason not to when he's as precise as he is, and capable of shooting with either foot at basically any position. You literally cannot defend him 1v1 and prevent a shot that for him is a decent chance. Given that, he should be getting into shooting positions more often. He's GOT to make more diagonal runs across the CBs, he's got to spin in behind the FB. Mason couldn't want a better CF than Martial to play with. Rashford is also unselfish. There's no good reason for him not to get more chances. He's got to generate space with his movement. The big area he's struggled in since his promotion is getting into the game. In the U23s and U18s he could just find space, turn and get a head of steam. He's not finding those opportunities to turn and get momentum and isolate a defender. In the senior game he's got earn the right to turn and he does that with runs beyond the defenders. If Mason develops good movement, he's a 40 g+a per season player. Without it? Probably 20-30 is his peak. Which is silly to even contemplate for an 18yo.
For me he has the potential to break Rooney tally. Thats enough praise, i hope he progress and be a player we all expect him to be or better.
Greenwood is an exceptional talent. But what made Rooney special was not just talent, but also his consistency and fitness over a number of years. Greenwood will need to stay motivated and healthy in order to come anywhere near his tally.
"When I watch him play, it just brings a big smile to my face. He's deadly with his finishing. The way he finishes is very unique. He's 18-years-old!"Mason Greenwood has a fan in Robin van Persie. 👀 pic.twitter.com/pm54Uv6VA0— Squawka (@Squawka) August 12, 2020
I know its a small sample size, but I think Mason is the best natural finisher we've ever had at united. Any level. Yes, even better than Ruud. In terms of just pure finishing, he has it all. Technique, power, release, footwork, insane accuracy, composure, all the angles, inside the box, outside the box and most impressive, either foot with equal lethality. The only area I'm not sure about is his finishing ability with the head.
Kane on Mase Harry Kane on Mason Greenwood's early impact with England: "Left foot, right foot, inside of the foot, powerful shots - it shows a really complete goalscorer when you can score in any situation. It's only been a short period but he definitely looks like a real top finisher" #MUFC— Simon Peach (@SimonPeach) September 4, 2020 Don't recall hearing about this either, but eternally grateful to the kid for precipitating Sanchez's departure from the club. That alone earns him legendary status...
That's nice to hear. I'm trying to think of when their paths may have crossed though. Last preseason? Seems ages since Sanchez played for us.
Has to be preseason when Ole was still talking in public about dog shagger having a future at the club. Still recall being surprised that shortly after he made those claims, that's when the move to Inter materialized.
