https://www.skysports.com/football/...problem-for-man-utd-boss-ole-gunnar-solskjaer Pretty bad that the press is starting to go after a kid like Mase and make up negative stories about him in that fashion. The recent claims about him originated in the DM, so there was reason to doubt them.. Once they were picked up by more reputable sources (Skysports, The Guardian, The Times, Telegraph etc...) different matter entirely. Great news though but pretty massive L from the British press here (and shame on them really for trying to hurt a young kid in that manner)...
Sounds like ole is protecting him. If he's not had off field issues and there's been no news on an injury, then why has the been involved?
Ole spoke of a knock or a niggle a week ago prior to the Newcastle match, without going into too much more details: pretty vague stuff, if we're being honest. So who knows where the truth ultimately lies? But if there were disciplinary issues and Ole prefers keeping them in house, then good for him and it's probably the best thing for Mase at this time, in terms of trying to protect him. But it was interesting how the story developed when it was picked by most English dailies (which are not considered 'rags'). And if it's complete BS, then it's pretty reprehensible on their part. In the end, just do not want to see Mase's talent go to waste: that would be the biggest shame of them all...
I will say the issue here is Ole isn't doing a great job of "protecting" Mason, if this is how he goes about it. Don't be vague. Just make something up, say it in a strong manner, and leave it at that. Don't leave room for speculation. If Mason does have issues though, maybe the best thing would be to call him out in public. All this talk with Rashford is setting a prime example of an athlete going above and beyond, probably isn't helping Greenwood.
Class from Mase. That one was for you bro ❤️ RIP Jeremy Wisten 🕊 pic.twitter.com/Njc2eRFcHk— Mason Greenwood (@masongreenwood) October 28, 2020
Mason Greenwood playing striker is dangerous. He's not ready to play as a lone striker or even a central striker among 3 forwards. But as a split striker with a 10 making runs, Mase is going to make a lot of teams look bad. Huge role in our win today. On another day, we lose that match or draw it. There wasn't much in it for an hour and his goal off our only good chance to that point was huge. He's still got a lot of developing to do. He's way too negative with his passing and his movement leaves much to be desired, but if he puts it together he's going to be a special, special player.

Maybe but in terms of Mason I think it does help show how lethal and accurate he is from all points in the box, something that is pretty rare.
No single stat is the be all, end all. In fact, that's never the point of any statistic or point of analysis. The goal is to learn more. All xG is data about the likelihood of scoring if shooting from a location, with a defender between you and the goal or not. Some models also include things like the height of the ball when struck etc etc. The fact that the xG is so low on his goals doesn't make xG any less useful. There are outliers for every stat. What this tells us is that Mason is an outlier. He may be in a purple patch of form, but even if he finishes only half of the chances he has taken thus far, he'd be the best finisher on the planet. Mason is not normal. If he gets his movement down, he's going to be a 30G/ season striker.
Press really going after him, give the kid a chance. He'll be back better than ever. Stick with him. 👊#MUFC pic.twitter.com/Jq0PWPS5RO— Man United News (@ManUtdMEN) November 11, 2020
According to twitter a friend of his recently committed suicide? FFS he's 19. The British press are monsters man. Always trying to tear down young black men.
Some other stuff too from Laurie Whitwell at the Athletic that other journos have picked up on - same old unsubstantiated crap.
Some more unsubstantiated stuff and rumours again today, especially social media. Interesting how Foden has been left alone by the press since the England incident and yet they are still all over Mason.
Excellent job on Rio's part. Enough... Can you name the Manchester United officials you spoke to for this story please?! https://t.co/uQBXdT7FWS— Rio Ferdinand (@rioferdy5) November 15, 2020
The attacks on Greenwood from a section of the press follows an all too familiar pattern... https://utdreport.co.uk/2020/11/16/...mistakes-in-the-past-its-time-to-take-action/ ....and it needs to be addressed.
Hi United fans I hope you enjoyed that🙂 pic.twitter.com/9ZmlKakPME— Mason Greenwood (@masongreenwood) January 24, 2021
Not only it was great seeing him have a good game where he delivered. But above that, loved his celebration and that grin he had. If Mase is in a good place mentally, that surely will only help his form and that will be a massive boon to our cause. Loved seeing this from him.
For sure. He will come good at some stage this year and prove vital. He has gobs of talent and more than belongs at this club, at a senior level. Wouldn't be shocked to see him deliver 15 goals in all comps between now and seasons end.
Obviously had something to say not just to the United fans, but also his critics as well... As clear a message as they come!
Never doubted his talent and the fact that he would come good. But not going to lie, I was a bit worried about him and was starting to wonder when he'd get out of his funk (especially in terms of the grief he was dealing with, something there really is no timetable for). Today was definitely a great sign in that regard, from his lively play and the fact that he's obviously in good spirits, if his social media posts are any indication. He can definitely can score goals by the bunch and it's perfect timing for the team if he's finally getting started.
So excited he got that goal today seeing his recent form and what makes it even more enjoyable he got it against the scousers. That never scored against a big team chatter got silenced today.
