Very young roster: nobody is older than 26.
Lots of promising players are looking for their first cap.

Definitely a new youth movement. Good to see Robinson get a chance. We definitely need a big/physical player in the center of the defence (as it was evident during the WC).

I assume one you mean is Richie, but remember he's injured. I'm thinking he wasn't ready for this game.

    Who else? Joey maybe?

    Definitely meaning Cannon, besides Mulrooney.

I'm biased, but I'd pick Cannon before Rimando or Brown.

Agreed. But it can't all be bias can it? Joey was GK of the year for MLS. So I don't understand how he keeps getting overlooked by Arena.

I think Cannon is perceived by Arena as "too old". All of the players in this camp are 26 or younger, and Cannon is 27. Maybe he'll get a shot at the next Gold Cup or something, but I think he missed his window and won't get a chance at the WC in between the Friedel/Keller and Rimando/Brown eras. :(

I was lookin around the USA board, and somebody mentioned Ramiro Corrales as maybe missing this chance. He seems to think he should have been called up. Wut do you all think about this issue?

Lindsey has been a long time fan there. Where are those people who, two years ago, were saying he was a loser? The playing time has made him a much better player and he will continue to learn.

27 is not too old for a keeper. Joe should get a chance, but for some reason, Arena prefers little Nicki. Also, although Brown had a good second half of the season, I'm still in a "wait and see" mode with him...

Richard is still recovering from injuries...

Poor Joe, it must suck when the goalkeeper of the year doesnt get picked to the best 11 squad or the national team. He keeps getting overlooked. Joe should be there before Nicky or Brown.

Hold your britches. He was called into camp. That doesn't mean he will even make the bench. It's all up to how well he shows in camp now.

If Cannon can overcome his lack of concentration and his terrible touch with the ball at his feet then maybe he'll get a call up.

Some people on the NATs board commented that Corrales is a bit slow, but I'm not sure if I agree with that assessment (of course I maybe biased). Surely he's not a speedster, but I don't think I've ever seen him get beat badly by his opponents. I think Ramiro would be a decent option on the left side (either in midfield or defense).

He also has international experience playing for the Olympics team in Australia...

    is Donovan captain?

since Donovan has the most caps of all the players in camp, will Arena give him the armband?

Regarding Cannon -- this is not about whether Cannon is better than Rimando, Howard, or Brown RIGHT NOW.

This game is the first opportunity for Bruce Arena to find out who will be in the mix for 2006. That's why Eddie Robinson is in camp, and Eddie Pope is not.

Right or wrong, Arena doesn't think that Cannon will serve a purpose in the national team pool for the 2006 world cup. The keeper in 2006 will almost certainly be Friedel or Keller.

Arena also doesn't think that Cannon will serve a purpose in the national team pool for the 2010 world cup. By that time, Friedel and Keller will be gone, but Cannon will be 34 or 35, and there's no way he's going to make his first WC team at that age. Rimando is, what, 23 right now? So he can be the third keeper in 2006 and the first keeper in 2010 when he is 31 or so. That's reasonable for a keeper.

So stop aching for Cannon to get his chance in this specific game. It's just bad timing. We all know that Cannon is a great guy and it's too bad that he's not as good as Keller or Friedel or as young as Nick Rimando.

Oh yeah, Timmy Howard will never make the USA world cup team because he sucks. MLS Best XI my ass.

Edited to add -- Joe Cannon is not the only player who is getting screwed in this manner by bad timing. Steve Ralston should be playing for the USA, based on current form. Too bad the World Cup won't be for another four years, at which point Ralston will be not anywhere near as good as he is now.
