Good, Turkey is a treaty member and ask for help. I don't think that this request should have such a big deal.
border escalation Ah, so now we can start sending troops and "defensive" weapons or anti-missle batteries to the borders of Iraq. And of course, since Iraq can't be 100% sure that the stuff is defensive, they will start moving troops, missles, etc to the area for their own "defence" Which will trigger the US administration to claim Iraq is building up their forces on the border, a "material breach" or "threat" or whatever. So we'll pro-actively bomb just over their border, they'll probably launch a missle towards a NATO base, and voila - justification to invade. Neat and tidy, eh?
Re: Re: border escalation No, the area of Northern Iraq is pretty much uncontrolled by Saddam. So if he can't move troops/missles within 75 miles of the border, and his missles go only about 90 miles, then Turkey has little to worry about, right? Or is the threat to southeastern Turkey as reliable as the threat that just cleared out 3M's duct tape inventory here?
There's a problem with Turkey. Turkey asks for 50 billion $ in order to allow your troops in, you are offering only 26 billions. Obviously they talk about financial aid not payment.
