Correct me if I'm wrong, or if this is old news. Is Germany not using the green jersey anymore? If so when was the last time they used it? I always liked the story on why they chose green for their away jersey. However, I really like their new red jersey.
They don't use it anymore, since then they had the black away jersey and now the red. Me personaly I liked the green
i hate the red, because it makes them look like spain. they should stick with white, black and green.
The last competition that the NationalElf used the green away jersey was Euro 2000. The away kit then morphed into a dark grey for WM 2002 and black for Euro 2004. Now they use the red kit, which IMHO sucks... Also, there are many stories regarding the use of the green jersey as the away kit, however there is only one official version. I wrote the DFB when we were discussing this in the past on these boards, and the official reason is...the DFB colors are green and white. Hope this is helpful.
So the whole story about how the Irish were the first team to play them after WWII, and as a gesture of good will Germany took on green for their away jersey is not true?? Thanks for your answer to my question.
I read on some English page (bbc or guardian) that they checked the Ireland story and it was true and as far as I know, the away jersey of Germany was red before the war. But if you check the official DFB page, the first game after the war was against Switzerland in 1950. In 1951 there was another game against Switzerland, then against Turkey and then one against Austria. Only then came the Ireland game. You could ignore the Austria game, since they were on the same side as Germany during the war (actually they were part of Germany) and maybe even Switzerland, since they were neutral and share the same cultural heritage, at least to some degree. I don't know if Turkey was actually fighting during WWII but I'm pretty sure that they joined the Allies, so they were the first of the former enemies to play Germany. The only argument that could be made is that Turkey played Germany in Germany, while the Ireland game was in Ireland (the first away Game for Germany against a former enemy). It would be interesting to know what colors Germany used against Austria in their third game after the war, since that game took place in Austria and Austria's colors are white as well.
Im a big fan of there new white jerseys can we get a picture of the green ones ive never seen them...
The 60's green jersey looks sharp. The new WC 06' jerseys are very nice. I have a small gig with Adidas and I've handled a fair ammount of the gear coming through for the tournament. It's all very well made and it looks and feels great in person. The Germany jersey is no exception. It is one of my personal favorites out of the entire line.
Do you mean the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland? The Republic of Ireland was neutral during the War, something that sticks in the craw of a lot of people. deValera infamously sent condolences to the German ambassador following Hitler's suicide.
DF as our moderator you should have one jersey of german NT and than you can walk around Minessota with our jersey and making promotion
