They are pretty clear about the benefits they offer. Price them out individually for yourself. Multiply by your estimate of your probability of needing to use each benefits. Add these numbers up. If the sum plus whatever you judge to be the value of your enjoyment of the magazine and the pleasure of belonging to an organization of possibly like-minded people exceeds the cost of joining, then it is worth it.
If you are officiating unaffiliated leagues of any sort, you should really get some additional insurance coverage. That being said, I'm not sure NASO even covers unaffiliated leagues. Part of their website says, "any sport, any game, any time." It also says this: What does recognized mean exactly? NASO is just a front like USSF. Whoever their actual insurance policy provider is will have a policy agreement that is 5 thousand pages long that goes over these things in detail. Good luck getting legitimate answers from a salesperson at NASO about what is specifically covered or not. They will just try to sell you their package. Doesn't seem to be any doubt that the supplemental coverage for a USSF, NFHS, or NISOA game would be there, but what you really need to know is if they will cover you for your random indoor facilities, 7v7 leagues, etc. NASO can say whatever they want on their website, but ultimately coverage provided is going to come down to a claims adjuster at the actual policy provider whose more than likely heavily persuaded every day of his life by middle management to deny as many claims as possible.

After a couple of calls I got to one of their insurance people. The lady said that the criteria was that "the facility had a set of rules previously in place". Idk if the word .doc file that the non-USSF assignor sends out the week before your indoor assignments would count.
